UTEP boosts, extends Price's deal

The most asked question in town -- "How long will Mike Price stay at UTEP?" -- may have been answered Tuesday.

Price, UTEP's second-year coach, signed a one-year contract extension Tuesday through the 2009-2010 season that included a roughly 10 percent raise -- from $225,000 to $245,000. He also will receive $1 for every individual game ticket sold for UTEP's six 2005 home games -- rather than just the top three-grossing games, which was stipulated in the original contract.

The new contract, which could net Price between $450,000 and $500,000 a year after incentives, is effective this year. It ends Aug. 31, 2010.

What a novel concept. And I thought it wasn't a coach's job to help sell the program.

I was able to listen to both the DD’s coach’s show and Mike Price’s show this past week (and other weeks this year). Let’s just say the difference in attitude and belief in the direction the programs can and should be going is Night and Day.

P.S.

UTEP had 40 recruits in this past Saturday. I guess it did not hurt to have a sell out(52,500) and a big win.
