No more excuses for Marshall

Coaches, players say no longer can team say youth is reason for lapses

HUNTINGTON -- Credit Jeff Mullins with the self-edit of the week.

Marshall's senior tight end was answering yet another question about red zone struggles following last week's loss at UTEP. A failure to execute obviously was a concern, Mullins said, and those struggles were partially a product of the team's youth.

The team captain then hesitated in mid-question, correcting himself.

"You know what?" Mullins said. "We're in the middle of the season. We're not young now."

Thundering Herd football coach Mark Snyder hammered home Mullins' point Tuesday, explaining to his team that youth no longer was an excuse seven games into the season. Marshall's non-veteran squad looks to return to .500 Saturday against Tulane.

Excuses are like rear ends ---everybody's got one. Thank goodness for a coach with NO excuses and players that realize the production lies with them and what they brought to the table, not an ifs and buts approach to the game. smile.gif
