Just talked to one of the BB coaches and he related the following:

1. NT BB is not recruiting second level players anymore. In the past the high

school coaches in the DFW area and Texas in general "pushed" their top

players toward UT, A&M etc. We could only settle for the second tier kids.

2. We just signed two top tier kids from the Mo. JC. One is really "special"

and along with the Arizona State transfer, this is an outstanding class.

3. This coach said that "great" things are in NT's future for BB.

I for one believe that this staff is the finest BB staff ever at NT. Only time will

tell, but, after 40 years of following NT I feel that this staff is Big Time. Only

when Hayden Fry was at NT did we have a staff that saw NT for what it can be.

Fry didn't have the facilities that the BB program has but like JJ he never

thought we were second class. Other coaches we have and have had reflected

an image that a lot of us can't tolerate and that is one of "taking whats left"

when it comes to recruiting, etc. Hopefully those coaches are on the way OUT!

What other schools were looking at these two?

It is my understanding that:

Mangrum - offered by TCU, SMU, BAYLOR, TULSA

Muse offered by Wyoming among others

Jackson offered by UNLV, Utah State.

Been told a lot of teams were interested in Muse but he was only interested

in JJ and Wyoming

Hard to beat a staff of:

Bill Blakeley, Head Coach (Not much on X's and O's but played exciting ball that excited the crowd, put points on the board and put asses in seats)

Billy Tubbs, Asst. Coach (Brought in the best kids outside of Dallas and the Juco ranks)

Jimmy Gales, Asst Coach (Recruited the very best out of Dallas with emphasis on his former kids at Dallas SOC)

Herb Dillion, National Recruiter (Recruited top kids across the country)

Not sure who posted this comment on Scottie's board, but I agree with him. You can't really put alot of stock in the Fr. year stats. JUCO's will tend to play the sophmores the most, so both of these young men could have potential that could become apparent with the increased playing time this year. Let's wait and see what they do, but I love their size.

Then again, let's wait until November 9th to ensure they sign on the dotted line.

Mineral Area College (Mo) finished 21-10 last season in NJCAA Div I and is picked #19 in the pre season national poll.

I found some interesting posts on the Region 16 message board on the JUCO junction web site.

One message was about how the biggest problem the MAC coach would have would be finding enough playing time to keep so many talented players happy. The poster said that after Muse and Jackson it was anybody's guess who would start.

Jonathan Jackson and Curtis Muse have committed to play for North Texas. Can someone please tell Mean Green fans what we should expect from those two. Thanks.

Both are of them are good players, but have a lot of potential that has not been tapped. Muse is a legit 6'10" and is athletic, I think he only average around 8 ppg last year but he is a very capable scorer. I don't know alot about jonathon jackson

JJ is a solid strong 6'9" and is a warrior underneath. He is very strong on the D end, and can score if needed. He is a good shot blocker, and one of the best rebounders in our region. Muse has talent that won't stop. He is excellent on the D end, and has much potential on the offensive side. These two will be very good additions to your program. I hope this helps. You should be looking forward to these two young men coming to your program.

What do you forsee our starting line up to be and the 6th man?

My vacation ends this weekend. I will update practice then.

Ever wonder what people in other parts of the nation think about North Texas?

Hey fellas I've been gone awhile, but I'm back. Good to see all the regulars still on here for the most part. I kind of thought Muse might go a little bigger as far as Division 1 goes, but if that's where he wishes to go I wish him all the best of course.

North Texas is a D-1. I don't know much about them in basketball, but they've went to some of the smaller bowl games in football.

North Texas is in Denton, 30 miles n of Dallas. Used to live near there. The Mean Green are having a terrible year, coming off 3-4 years in a row where they won their conference, including 2-3 years without a conference loss. They schedule some biggies like UT and Oklahoma each year, and have gone to a bowl in New Orleans the last 2-3 years, and won more than they lost.

Used to be a bball power under the old Missouri Valley Conference, but haven't done much the past 30 years! Who the hxxx follows the Sun Belt conference....

I guess the pending signings of two big bodies (and Mangrum) will conclude the 05-06 recruiting class.

That should negate a potential signing of Ronnie Morgan Jr (6-7, 220) from SOC. (Who lists UNT as a favorite) Though I don't think that he would be a difference maker, his signing, (wherever) might impact his younger brother, sophomore J'Misson "Bobo" Morgan.

I attended an open house at SOC last night where they had a 3-point & slam-dunk contest as well as scrimmage; before we were able to meet and talk to the kids.

J'Misson is every bit 6-10, 260. Though he is not at the level of their 6-9 Pre-Season All-American senior Darrell Arthur, he will be the closest thing to a Baby Shaq in 2 years. As mentioned in earlier posts, the brothers are the son of UNT All-Time great Ronnie Morgan (about 6-7, 250)

BTW, SMU's Jimmy Tubbs made it over and feels that the Mustangs are on Arthur’s short list.
