This is a college football board. If you don't want to read negativity along with positive statements, then you probally should not read this message board. I'm sorry but when someone signs that scholarship and goes from high school to college then they have to be willing to accept what comes along with it. Also to say that the people on this board don't know what they are talking about is, in some cases, dead wrong. Someone's son might play for UNT and think that the fans have no clue what is going on but they have to remember, they have not been around UNT for 25 years and they don't have any clue about our history either. I have been around UNT athletics for a long time and I know for a fact that the players love playing for Dickey. I think that a lot of times that there judgement of their coach is biased because DD is a players coach.

The day a poster on this board gets up the nerve to show up at the coaches show and ask Coach Dickey some of these burning questions, during the show or after, is the day when I’ll eat my hat and not say another word about internet courage to him.  If you’re planning on being there tonight, tell me and I’ll be there, right next to you, to hear you ask DD why he doesn’t care about winning, or penalties, or beating OOC opponents, or recruiting, or selling the university, or the fans.  Any Monday night, I’ll be there.  Just give me the word, and I’ll see you at Hooters.

I would like to ask him that old manager's/interviewer's question. "So, where do you see yourself and the program in the next five years".

I would also like to ask him what he thought of this quote "Someone has to be #1 in the Nation,...it might as well be us". I would also like to know if he thought that that quote might ever apply to North Texas.

You are missing the point I was trying to make and that is that we are all aware this is a board of opinions and it should be! No one including me says that when they sign that scholarship that they should not be held accountable and willing to accept what comes with it. I don't think it is advantageous for them to read alot of the posts on this board period. Just because you have been around UNT for 25 years does not make you an expert on the players or how they feel about any of the coaches. I haven't and won't comment on how my son feels about any of the coaches but I promise you I know more than you do about his feelings in that area along with some of the other players who have visited my home. I will leave it at that. I totally agree that these players should be held accountable for their grades as it is a priviledge to have your schooling paid for, that has always been a priority at our home long before college football. Once again, this is only my opinion in which I am entitled to just as you are yours!

The point I wanted to make was exactly what you stated, this is a board for people to rant (not always what parents want to read, I'll be honest) but the fact of the matter is my son is getting his education at a school he thoroughly enjoys and at the end of the day that is all that truly all that matters to me as a parent!!  I have truly enjoyed the experiences we have had in tailgating at UNT and we have met alot of nice people, a few people should  remember that it is someone's kid they are talking about and if you have ever been a parent you understand the old "you can talk about me but don't you dare talk about my kid" that is why I feel it is best that my son don't read this board.  Hey, if they say something good about them tell them, it make's their day and if they say something bad, what they don't know don't hurt them!  I believe all of these boys are very competitive or they wouldn't be playing the game and none of them want or like to lose regardless of where the blame lies!

THAT....was a great post! My personal peeve (and I'm sure many here will share it) were the students that used to be on campus wearing UT, tamu, Ttech gear and talked about how they were going to transfer at the end of such and such year. I don't look very highly on those types of people b/c they're the first to go out and talk bad about UNT---which only trickles out to help foster the apathy. I think that experience is probably shared across all the campuses of the Sun Belt schools. I would, honestly, like to know what kind of recruiting pitch is used by the UNT coaches. Do they sell the school?....let the players do that? I guess the biggest thing for me is that the only access most people have to the program is what we hear on the radio or read in the paper...and unfortunately we don't always hear positives being spoken about our school. That's the thing that gets me most, that most of our supporters went through similar experiences as I described above and have a sensitive spot to it....why keep hitting that spot in public? Why not say things like what you said (highlighted above)....

sorry...just re-read that and I don't want to come across as wanting everything to be candycanes and lollipops positive....just NOTHING to help along the notion that UNT is second rate to anyone.

The coaches and players should be happy we are complaining. We expect A LOT more out of our coaches and players than we use to.

The system we run now does not give us a chance to win against anyone unless that team has lesser talent than we do.... For example: Texas Tech has that crazy offense that evens out the talents across the board. The talent at Tech other than the QB position is not that much greater than here at NT. But sometimes the system will not always be enough to win a game as shown in the UT vs TT game this past Saturday.

And as fans we do have a right to complain when the players turn their back on the band/fans at the end of the game.... this all starts at the top. Hayden Fry please come back. dry.gif

This board is tame compared to the OU board this yr and the SMU boards of past.

THE POINT IS... WE EXPECT TO WIN NOW AND WON'T SETTLE GETTING BEAT BY 40+ POINTS 3 TIMES!

I have said it before but I would not recommend players, coaches, or their families to even browse this board. All it will do is make you upset, and this thread is a great example.

Players, play hard, play smart, have fun, and that is all you can do. All of this stuff is BS from fans who like to sit around and BS about their team because that is what fans do. Don't take it serious, and I wouldn't even waste your time looking at it.

Exactly. This is the guy on the team who had to be ordered to tell a joke after practice because he was taking things TOO seriously. I'll take a six-pack of him.

hey I'm just pointing out the truth...these kids do read this board and young people don't take things the same way as older adults do...

For crying out loud! These are Division I college football players. If any of them can't handle a little criticism from fans on an Internet message board, they're not going to do well on the football field anyway with 350-pound monsters with rage issues on the other side of the line. I hate it when people play this card. Boo freaking hoo. Fans who care enough about the Mean Green to be depressed all week because of a loss are a good thing.

There is a big difference between saying for example that the offence is playing horrible or something along those lines and calling out a particular kid. Yeah, they should be able to handle it, but it is human for it to bother them. If I had a group that consistantly railed on me at my job it would bother me. If you are a rabid mean green fan and get depressed because we lost a game, great. Don't think for a second you feel any worse than the kids do. You may think you do but you don't. These kids are used to winning. They get to think about losing the streak. They have a lot riding on their success on the field. Rail on DD all you want, but the kids are playing thier guts out. It's the coaches responsibility to teach them to be men and put them in the best situation to win. Not the kids.

61 -The above was your reference to fans not having a clue because they did not play college football. I hate to say it but you have used what has to be the ALL TIME lamest replies. Why is it when someone doesn’t like what others say they inevitably throw out the “well you’ve never been an “X” so you don’t know ……..” Let me ask you some questions –

Do you have to be a meteorologist to comment on the weather? unsure.gif

Do you have to be a politician to comment on politics? unsure.gif

How do unmarried Priest / Reverends / Doctors give marriage counseling? unsure.gif

The point is just because you did not participate in an activity does not mean you can not have valid opinions. cool.gif

What are you rambling and ranting about? Where does the above mention anything about someone playing or not playing? The point is that many/most on the board don't have a clue as to the real happenings and what goes on behind the scenes . Now I guess that you'll tell me that you do......... cool.gif

You pulled only part of my post out and quoted me...did you not read the entire post? Here it is if you didn't...you see I agree with you also..they have to suck it up and live with it or ignore it which is what I suggest.

hey I'm just pointing out the truth...these kids do read this board and young people don't take things the same way as older adults do...if i've ruffled a couple of feathers with a simple statement like that then so be it..it just proves you guys can dish it out but taking it is another matter..I however digress...this board is for opinions and all of you have the right to express it...and the kids will have to learn to live with other peoples opinions is this world of instant communications we live in today..

My son does not read any of this. He does however know kids that do and he tells them to ignore it. My main concern is with recruits or their parents reading it. You know, the stuff calling for the coaches head after going to 4 bowl games in a row. I know things are not right at this time with the team. But, I have to give the coach and his staff time to right the ship after his success record. I'll tell you this, I don't know how DD has had the success he's had the last four years. When I first came down here a year and a half ago on a recruiting trip, myself and my family including my son didn't want anything to do with the school because of the facilities. They told us they were building a new weight room and dorm but all we could see were the facilities they were using at the time and they sucked. For DD to do what he did with the talent he could get with those facilities was amazing. We then came back for an official visit after the dorms were complete and the athletic facility was being finished. We were truly amazed as they were as good as we had seen anywhere. That did it for my son and it did it for several others and it will continue to get better. There are alot of talented young men out there that get passed up by the top schools in the country but they would still not come here because of the facilities. That has changed and things will get better. sombody said there shouldn't be a rebuilding year that we just re-load...jees thats the most unrealistic statement i've seen. That didn't even work with OU! Look, we lost the future QB in a horrble tragedy. We lost the next guy in-line to grades(I will not blame the coaches on this one either. They have everything in place for these kids to make the grade as easy as possible so the blame has to go on the student for this one) So now we shove a red-shirt freshman in the roll of QB and expect him to become the MAN. So far that hasn't worked but the boy is working hard to get better. You say why don't we try this and why don't we try that. I have to believe that Coach Flannigan is keeping the offense as simple as possible for the QB to keep him from getting killed while he is getting used to the much faster game of D1-A football. My whole point to all this is, this is a "rebuilding" year and a better future is in store for us and I truly believe it will happen with Coach DD at the helm.

I think you answered yourself. Anyone can make a comment about anything. Is it valid? Don't know. If I'm sick, I go to the doctor I don't post on here what everyone thinks. If someone sues me I go to an attorney not a message board. Yes, there are some guy who know a bunch about football, but there are a many more who have no clue. It's easy to make comments like "we don't make adjustments." What if they made lots of adjustmensts and they still don't work? What if the other team is better and counters our adjustments with better plays?

Point is, it aint as easy as some people make it out to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a real big fan of this coaching staff. I don't like some of the things they do. However, I'm not going to spout off that they should "make adjustments". Wether they make the right calls or not, they still know more about it than me. They also have much more riding on it than me. It's not like they have some cush job lined up if they fail here.

Not sure how you can say we will get better recruits considering our best years were with recruits when the Eagle Point stuff was only a blip.

Hopefully this recruit class gets better b/c right now it looks plain ugly, hopefully this season will be just like you said a rebuilding year.

As for the QB situation see Memphis who seems to be doing quite alright with their 3rd String QB who got thrown in the middle of season without Spring Ball and 2 a Days to take snaps and learn offense better.

lol..."sigh" some get lucky with a 3rd string QB so that's no comparison to make...people are not robots built from a schematic...and are you saying that last years recruiting class should be making a difference to the pont of winning all games? NOBODY wins because they have a great freshman recruiting class last year. They have to learn and grow into the system also. Yes you have some freshman that can make a difference but AD of OU isn't even the same back with all of the SR. talent lost on the OL after last year.

How is it lucky??? The main point as to why the team is looking bad this year is inexperience but teams across the country are doing quite well with little experience. Yes OU is having a down season but their QB has pulled it out when needed for some victories, see Kansas State and Baylor.

So by your thinking we got lucky then with Andrew Smith leading the team to a victory at the NO Bowl a few years ago.

That seems contradictory.

We have a RS Freshman with a year of experience in this system to learn, plus he was in Fall Drills, yet limited improvement can be seen after 6 games.

.......and some 3rd string QB's who had the talent all along, (but the coach missed it). sometimes finally get their chance.

lol...that is very true...Joe Montana was a back-up at NotreDame....I could go and on with examples of that.

You just never know...a QB can look just awful in practice but put him on the gridiron and he can turn into a super star

They have a little running back named D'Angelo Williams by the way. Before anyone even says it, yes I know we have PC and JT yada yada. Williams is better, and they have a overall better offense

Who doesn't have a better overall offense?
