Saturday's game against North Texas represented a chance for the Bulldogs to make a statement. As the four-time defending champion of the Sun Belt Conference, North Texas is the league's standard bearer.

The same Sun Belt which Tech spurned in order to cast its lot with the Western Athletic Conference, a move Sun Belt commissioner Wright Waters has ridiculed ever since.

In easily handling the Mean Green in a 40-14 homecoming victory before 19,481 at Joe Aillet Stadium, the Bulldogs (3-3) were able — for one Saturday — to make a point.

"I think this one game does," Bicknell said. "When you look at what the WAC has done and what the Sun Belt has done, frankly there's no comparison. That's not to say anything bad about the Sun Belt, but the WAC is an established conference that's had some success against some very good teams."

That disparity was evident in the first half as the Bulldogs rolled out to a 27-0 lead, dominating the Mean Green (2-4) in every facet of the game.
