What good can come from this?

Losing so badly to a middle (lower?) tier team in the lowly WAC clearly shows how desperately dramatic change is needed. Further evidence comes from the 0-0 end of regulation for stAte and FAU. The reason I say that is let's suppose we win the remaining belt games; these teams are so bad it is still possible. The problem is if that happens, then maybe we'll forget this game. And that should not happen. This one should stay in peoples' minds, and maybe that will help them remember how much more money the school will have to spend in today's environment to put together something that can compete. On the other hand I'm not sure that the LA Tech staff gets much more. Maybe they do. Pointing to the circumstances is just excuses. The job is not getting done. Not even close. Anyone who cares about North Texas should remember this game. It should be a like a warning sign, showing us what way NOT to go in the future. The administration could use it as an example to show people why they need to send money. They ought to send out a big mailing this week. Maybe a telethon. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Sounds crazy, right? Well, it would beat the devil out of what will actually happen instead ... nothing. Business as usual.

The only good that can come from a loss like this is that Bobby Ray has to look in the mirror and realize his boy can't coach a seventh grade football team. 4 straight conference championships and no one will hire DD? 4 straight conference championships and nobody will hire the wunderkind Ramon Flanigan? It is going to be interesting to see how after the season shakes out. The best thing for long term future of this program is 2-9 or 3-8. Then we can move on. The sad thing is the Sun Belt is so bad we could run the table. ULaLa beats middle!!!! Arkansas State and Florida Atlantic 3-0 in overtime? It is possible that the only road block is UL Monroe to 5th straight championship. The we have to go through one more year of this crap, being non competitive outside our conference.

I am glad to see that someone else realizes that DD is not a wanted man. There are some coaches that can't win more than one conf championship in their conference before they hired away.....here we got one that has won 4 in a row, and the only Serious bidder for his services in that time was Idaho.

If the money for it can appear from somewhere, then a new HC and new OC can come from this.

I'm happy with the D. I can't really sit here and say they're playing badly when they go out and play for 80% of the game. I know the D is strong, even with the bend-don't-break philosophy, they keep points off the board and can keep turnovers coming. That is, when they can get time to take a breather.

As for the other side of the ball- even if the O has trouble finding a rhythm, it's got to look like it wants to win, no matter what kind of play is run. The O is trying, but you can't block 9 people with 5, and you can't run when they know what direction you're going.

To be entirely honest, I wouldn'd mind the losses so much if the playcalling had some sort of variety in it. If your bread-butter play calls aren't working, and you're already behind in the score, you don't have much to lose by throwing every play you have at the opposing D. It doesn't matter if it works or not, because you tried, and heck- thanks to tape, you can analyze the play and see what needs to happen so it CAN work in another game.

The RUN-RUN-RUN-PLAY ACTION only worked because we had the QBs to run it with and because no one could execute an effective attack to stop it. Thanks to Southern Miss and our QB situation, everyone knows what we're going to do and that the play calling won't change.

UT will have to find a new system with Vince Young leaves, and teams have to routinely do things like that when they see that they can't get players shaped around a system.

Either they are somehow bought out and replaced, or they prove to us that they're worth what WE are paying them, and they start digging out some new plays- even if that means going to the old playbooks from years before.
