Well...The season is almost here, I can hear shoes "chirping" on courts in my head.

Let's start brainstorming about ideas to promote attendance, and involvement.

---- What worked last year?

---- Anything new that we can try?

---- Any traditions that we can steal from other universities?

Be creative, but realistic smile.gif

I feel pretty confident that the Tortilla thing won't go over so well at the Pit.

Well there was the spotlight idea that worked well last year. I think the athletic department should simply invest in one of those for bball game nights. They make it seem like a real event.

Idea stolen from Coach:

And1 basketball tourney at halftime starring.................Joe Blow Frat guy. Rules are you must perform at least one "And1" move each time down the floor. Entertainment would not be from them pulling the moves off (although cool if they do). Real entertainment would be seeing them try to pull them moves off.

Can th University set up one of those bigger "circus-like" tents on the grass by the Super Pit? With the walls down, you could heat up the area using those heat lamps and that would give people an area to Taigate for the game? We could have BBQ and BYOB - If we got to a point where one tent would be full, we could look into getting another and just make it like a big village/party area. Last year, it was REALLy cold at osme of those games to be outside, let-alone drinking cold beer.

We could still use the spot light to try to draw in a bigger crowd.

Give football season ticket holders a voucher good for 2 tickets to any home game.

Have a system in which student IDs are scanned at every game and points are given for every game attended, and at the end of the season have some kind of drawing or contest for students. So the more games that students attend, the better their chance of winning a prize. AND PROMOTE IT!

They need to realize that they are in the entertainment business. Halftime performances need to be beefed up. Remember when we had the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, the Bud Light Daredevils and the Kilgore Rangerettes? Go more show biz with player introductions like the Detroit Pistons do (this would require dumping the current P.A. guy). The idea of an ongoing student raffle is an excellent one. Remember introducing the 'starting crowd' for tonight's game when all student groups were introduced? All this would require work on the part of the athletic department..............

On the Detroit Pistons thing you mentioned Drex:

I have thought for a while we need something for the entire crowd to say in certain situations. Think about how much atmosphere is added to football games when we all say "First Doooooooooown!!" in unison. Detroit does the same thing with "Deee-Troit Basket - balll!!" The Orlando Magic used to do the annoying "traaaaaaaavellllinnng". We need something like that. Something said for every dunk or 3 pointer or steal........something.

One more thing we need:

More Space Jam and Gettin' Jiggy with it played in the arena. Pretty much can't get enough of those songs...........they are freakin' awesome!!!!!!! wink.gif

This would probably take more preperation time than what we have for this season.

Instead of renting tents and heaters, what about the university using the old Men's Gym (Snake Pit) to host pregame parties. Having that building together with an additional fenced outside tailgate area, a whole lot of people could be included in pregame festivities for very little cost to the department.

The MGC corporate tents could be set up for campus organizations to give them each a home in the tailgate area.

People, especially students, hate to miss an 'event', and they will show, especially if it involves beer.

Close the tailgate area 20 minutes before tipoff, and the crowd will go directly into the Super Pit.

Great idea to use the old pit. Could you imagine coming into the pit pregame with the old pit dimmly lighted and game films from the old days playing on one wall of the pit with music and snacks and drinks. It would be fun...could be like a pre game pep rally atmosphere. As you remember, it doesn't take much noise to get the old pit rocking. It is my understanding that the old pit will get less and less usage in the years ahead, as intramurals and others will be using other venues. The availability of the old pit should be excellent for such events.

Can they have beer in the old Pit? If so, I think it's a fantastic idea. It could easily be converted into a place with good party/game atmosphere. Maybe the BBQ guys could set up right outside the doors?

Excellent Idea. Would get people out of the cold pregame as well...

How about free Wendy's if they make enough 3's?  tongue.gif

How about free Outback, if they make 90 percent of their free throws.

Talk about a safe bet for Outback. JJ's teams are such bad free throw shooters Outback wouldn't even sweat giving away free food.

Make some of the better seats available for people that show up...

Problem is, if people buy up the season tickets (ie the "good" seats), it's their prerogative to either use or not use those tickets as they see fit. I do however, wish that people that do buy up those tickets do indeed attend some of the games or provide a way for people to use those tickets when they can't make it.
