North Texas 13, Florida International 10

MIAMI (AP) - Daniel Meager found Johnny Quinn on a 7-yard scoring pass to give North Texas the lead, and Florida International missed a late field goal in the Mean Green's 13-10 win on Saturday night.

FIU (1-4, 0-2 Sun Belt) had a chance to tie the game, but kicker Adam Moss missed a 42-yard field goal wide left with 1:12 remaining to seal the win for North Texas (2-3, 1-1).

Meager, who just passed for just 79 yards on 10-of-15 passing, hit Quinn on a short slant pattern to cap a three-play, 23-yard drive with 1:59 left in the third quarter. A Golden Panthers fumble by Josh Padrick that was recovered by Mean Green nose tackle Maurice Holman helped set up the drive.

FIU set school single game records for most turnovers with eight and fumbles lost with six.

Patrick Cobbs rushed for 112 yards on 27 carries for North Texas.

Julian Reams rushed for 78 yards on 15 carries for FIU. Reams replaced starter Ben West, who was suspended for violating team policy.

Padrick threw two interceptions, was 20-of-32 for 243 yards, and threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Samuel Smith in the first quarter. Smith had eight receptions for 98 yards.

Moss hit a 25-yard field goal for FIU, and North Texas kicker Nick Bazaldua made two, from 20 and 41 yards out.

      "Where Are The Fans?"

      Haven’t seen this mentioned, but once again…… We started the season out pretty well. Got some local and national attention, to the point we were a trendy pick. “Tech better watch out!” Reece Davis on ESPN Game Day picked us as his “superdog”. We were starting to turn a corner regarding perception. And not only do we get beat, we got absolutely destroyed on national TV. Outclassed, out coached, out played and embarrassed. We were taking a few steps forward only to get hit in the face ONCE AGAIN and get launched back to what many think is our rightful place. How many people paying attention to our game vs TTech didn’t even bother to look at the schedule to see our next games much less make plans to show up. This probably happened about halfway through the 2nd quarter of that game. We are in a situation where we have no room for error. When you’re in this situation, no amount of marketing can overcome getting embarrassed like we were in Lubbock. We had our chance. Blew it.

      Yes, please. Why do we always relegate UNT to thinking we just have to go after someone else’s failure? We need to find a Lance Leipold, in my opinion. Find a proven winner at a lower level.
