All Texas Coaches on one team

If you were able to assemble an entire college staff from head coaches from the Texas Div I schools, how would you assign them? Here is my take.

Head Coach / recruiting: Mack Brown, Texas

Mack has shown he is able to utilize good assistants and he is an excellent organizer and front-man.

Offensive Coordinator: Mike Price, UTEP

With a Price-led offense, “it’s rolling baby”. In seriousness, the guy knows the offensive side of the ball. He gets the nod over Leach because of the balance.

QB: Mike Leach / Texas Tech

Can you imagine how much tutelage a QB would get if Mike Leach spent all day with them? Wow.

RBs: Darrell Dickey / UNT

It could be debated that he belongs on defense, but hard to not put him at RBs, given has had the last two NCAA leaders in rushing.

OL Coach: Guy Morriss / Baylor

Easy pick given for this former NFL lineman. Line would be disciplined and motivated.

Wide Receivers: Art Briles / Houston

Another offensive minded head-coach. His Stephenville teams were way ahead of their time in the high school ranks.

Defensive Coordinator and DLine: Gary Patterson / TCU

Patterson has always put good D’s on the field. Not much competition from his peers for this DC spot.

LBs: Ken Hatfield / Rice

He has to go somewhere and it sure isn’t coaching receivers. He has been around the block a few times.

Linebackers: Phil Bennett / SMU

Everyone’s sentimental favorite. This former LSU / A&M / Kansas State defensive assistant gets the nod here.

Special Teams: Dennis Franchione / Texas A&M

While the spotlight may be very bright on him as a head-coach, can you imagine if all he had to do was special teams? There may never be a straight-forward punt again.
