Saturday night West Texas A&M University ( WT to us old timers ) drew 22,993 fans to their home game against Eastern New Mexico University. This is a new Lone Star Conference record , as well as a DII record crowd. WT stadium was built in 1958 and holds 20,000. The overflow sat on the grassy hills behind the end zones. As a side note WT is now 7-0.

Why did they draw so well? Don't say nothing else to do. Was there a tractor pull afterwards that was free with a football game ticket?

back in the 60's WTSU had Dwaine Thomas and what other famous NFL runner in the same backfield????????

Mercury Morris......#22 on your program.

A few years later they had another speedster on their roster who played a little pro football... Rocky Thompson.

They also had a young running back named Pete Pedro that was a good one. Joe Kerbel recruited some good players to Canyon. They used to give Texas Tech fits so the Red Raiders quit playing them. The programs have gone in seperate directions since then but at one time WT could tee it up with lots of people.

This program has come a long way since they dropped football for a couple of years in the early 90's.

Even though that stadium is roughly the same age as Fouts it is much better. It's built into a hill side and one nice feature is that ever couple of seats there is an electrical outlet. Gives fans the the opportunitiy to plug in an electric blanket (gets pretty cold and windy in the panhandle)
