Please look at the point of my discussing those games before telling me why he scheduled them. People on here are complaining about our OOC performances. I'm giving you one reason for said performance and asking why the people who want DD fired because we aren't doing better in OOC aren't pointing any fingers at RV.

Like I noted in another thread, I don't expect us to beat the LSU's of the world, but I do expect us to beat or be competitive with the TCU's, Tulsa's, La. Tech's, Colorado State's, etc... Even against the LSU's I expect us to play hard. I don't see it now.

Thats one of the few fair assessments and posts I've seen regarding this subject. Let me ask, is it ok to play hard and lose 50 -0?

At what score differential does it become too big of a loss?

I agree with what you just said UNTLifer, but I'd rather see us lose a close game to TCU than get beat by 60 at ut, whether it funds the athletic program or not.

I'm also, as I've stated before, not condoning the loss to Tulsa and the likes. We have lost many OOC games that we should have been competitive in.

That's a fair question. In my mind, if the boys are playing hard, being well-coached, and are not making stupid penalties like unsportsmanlike calls, then I don't care how bad the score is.

But I see a real difference in the way that '02 team played Texas versus the way the '04 and '05 teams have played. In that '02 game, I didn't expect us to win. But those boys went down there and played like they could win. They expected to play their best and come away with that game. Before the Texas game last year, DD was quoted as saying "We're lucky to be on the same field as those guys." That's not playing to win.

And even the loss to Tulsa, although we were expected to win, if we'd played smart football and played/coached like we could win, I would have been happy. Sometimes the Zebras get you down, sometimes it's just like God or mother nature is rooting for the other team, but the most important thing is trying. And unfortunately, I'm not seeing a whole lot of try from the coaching staff right now. It's that whole "play not to lose" philosophy. If you never give it your all, you can never reap the benefits of hard work.

Hey Coach Dickey- you need answer the question that Coach Fry asked in the short videoclip that amounts to this:

"Why can't WE be number 1?"

I think Coach Fry's philosophy of getting the team to play as if they were national champ-competitive was key. If you just tell the guys all they have to do is win the SBC, that's all they'll set out to do. If you just coach to win the SBC, that's about all that'll happen.

I'm betting that the coaches behind Utah, Boise, Louisville and Michigan State aren't coaching just to win the conference games. I think Coach D needs to coach to win EVERY game.
