No discipline: DD slaps a player on the a$$ after committing a stupid personal foul to keep Troy's drive aliv.

No desire: DD walks around like he doesn't care. He doesn't inspire his players or the fans.

No Imagination: We have former QB's as head coach and offensive coordinator and they run the most unimaginative offense in the nation. Jr. Highs are more creative. Of course, look at the records of the teams these two coaches QBed, and you might know why.

No Adjustments: We have the same gameplan for every team, every defense, every situation.

No Preparation: OL problems? QB playing poorly? DD has had since last spring to prepare these young men and numerous opportunities to get them playing time the last few years and didn't.

It is time for DD to go even if it means losing Mattress Mac's support. If Mac's support is contingent upon DD, then he is causing more harm than good.

Agreed 100%- what was the JQ WR pass call? a drive killer is what I call it.

That was during the only good drive qwe had and it killed any MO we were creating.

At a minimum flanigan must be gone

and recruiting?

did anyone else notice the difference in talent level? TU has been 1A how long?

So are we to assume that the o-line this year is 75% new people? I just don't get it....we have had no hole for these guys to run through all season and that makes no sense. Graduation I can understand, but unless they all graduated up there we should have a little bit of experience.

Did anyone hear what Dickey had to say in the post game interview? What did he say? or rather, what excuse did he give?

Also, does anyone go out to the coaches show? and if so, does or has DD ever addressed all of these stupid penalties....we had 2 Defensive offsides penalties last night on the SAME DRIVE!

Roderick Cotton and TJ Covington should be dismissed from the team for their stupid unsportsmanlike penalties.

Their performance made me embarrassed to be an NT fan.

Both are suppose to be senior leaders and act like HS bullies. It is evident the team is going to lose this year, so I say bench all of the seniors, except Cobbs (who actually is a leader) and play the young kids.

If the team is going to lose, lose with kids who can help next year!

It's time for a Dickey team to have some discipline.

Uh, I think you're a little late on the whole benching TJ Raymond thing. He's academically ineligible and hasn't taken a single snap this year. But yeah, he embarrassed me too.

These are the two things that bugged me most about the game.

I wanted to see him slapping some helmets, grabbing a face mask, getting his team fired up to go get the ball when the offense turned it over... to open up some holes... anything!

The personal fouls are just STUPID.

Also I hope that as Meager matures this year, we will see him assume a role as a leader on the team. I didnt see him trying to pump up the offense or act like they even had a chance of winning the game. I did however watch him show how upset he was after every drive that ending in a pick/3 and out/fumble as he yanked his helmet off in frustration on the sidelines. He didnt look like a leader to me, maybe everyone else saw something I didnt.

I did mean TJ Covington. Thank you for pointing out my obvious mistake. smile.gif

I'd be hesitant to go ahead and say that DD needs to go. No one who produces results the way he has deserves to be given the boot after 4 games.

Not that I am liking everything I see either. I'e seen several threads that talked about the season Oklahoma is having and to that I'd say that we are the OU of the Sun Belt. So for DD to not seem more invested in this kind of stuff is the biggest disappointment of all.

If we can't come up with anything more imaginative to do with the nations leading Rushers for the past 2 years then I'd say Flannigan should be gone at the end of the year. We've yet to really see them both consistantly in the back field. I listened to the KSU game, and we had them both back there once. I think someone tripped and only gained 1 yard, but George Dunham said that it looked like it could have made some yards if they'd do it again.

Roll outs seem to work for Meager, but I only saw a couple last night.

You'd think we could come up with something.

I was impressed that we ran the flea flicker, but why don't we try the reverse?

I know some will argue that with a Freshman QB there's only so much you can do. But I think I'd make the roll out an almost every down play with the O line playing like it is. I'd also put Cobbs and Thomas in the backfield for almost every play. What do we have to lose. We're already losing, let's try something new.

Also - If the O-Line doesn't improve, I think Dickey might need to have a "Come to Jesus" meeting wth that coach as well.

So much harping on the O Line. Why? What makes you think they're terrible? Is it sacks?

UNT has allowed 11 sacks for loss of 90 yards this year.

Offense has 409 yds rushing and 384 yds passing.

Troy had just as many sacks as UNT did. So does their OLine stink too?

USC has allowed 5 sacks for loss of 29 yards this year.

No need to quote their offensive stats.

Texas has allowed 5 for loss of 35 yards.

Same as USC here.

These seem like they are way better than UNT's stats, but also consider that both of those teams have yet to play a real opponent with te exception of Ohio State (a game where most of their sacks came from) and missouri for TX and Ariz. State for USC.

UNT has been playing teams equal or above their caliber all season.

But let's then compare sack stats with Virginia Tech, a team who many think is 2nd best in the nation.

VT has allowed 13 sack for loss of 74 yards.

And is still able to garner 833 yds rushing and 947 yds passing. And they are in the ACC, the best conference in college football.

Two positives: Maurice Holman is going to be a stud.

NT has their first two Red Zone posessions after going 10 quarters

without one. They scored on both.

How long Troy U had that new football stadium, too? Sorta' all went hand in hand for their football program's overall plans, now didn't it? Troy U has had a long-term plan for their football program and they have worked their plan to a tee. Look for them to be strong in the SBC the next few years because of it, too. (Jeez! Did their defense look almost as quick as Southern Miss's did at our bowl game last year)? blink.gif

What I noticed when Troy hosted Missouri on their ESPN2 nationally televised game is how they (wisely) filled their scoreboard end zone seats with numerous HS bands. Looked damn good when the ESPN cameras scanned that area all night long, too.

I don't guess the 2'nd largest intercollegiate music school in America could ever get with NT Athletics and have a conversation similar to this? "Hey! Lets bring some of our NT HS band director alums back to campus at a Mean Green football game that is televised to showcase our NT College of Music alums AND (of course)..............their Texas HS bands?" You get a corporate sponsor to cover their tickets. What do we have to lose? What do we have to gain? How about future new NT students who had never been our campus till that night in Denton they sat in the Daktroinic's end zone in a televised game to boot? blink.gif

I suppose little ol' Troy U pulled a similar promotion off against Missouri w/o a hitch but at NT we too many times major in talking about what we "can't do" because we never did it before and choose to leave end zone seats unfilled (for all of Amerca to see)? ph34r.gif OK, got that off my chest! biggrin.gif

I couldn't DISAGREE more.

4 Consecutive Sun Belt Championships

4 Consecutive New Orleans Bowl Appearances

1 New Orleans Bowl Victory

26 game Conference winning streak

Granted, most of our OOC games have been a disaster. And last night was a bitter pill to swallow. However, IMHO we would not have accomplished what we have without Darrell Dickey !

Now is the time to "rally around the troops" and continue supporting OUR MEAN GREEN !

I am usually a pro-Dickey guy but lately I have had to wonder... is DD like a Buck Showalter in that he can improve your program but history has shown that he just cant take you to the next level? I think this is a definite possibility.

We have beaten up on the SunBelt for 4 years. SO WHAT. The Sun Belt is terrible, and that is being kind.

I actually agree, but I must say that Showalter did win a World Series with the Diamondbacks. Against the Yankees of all teams too.

Larry Dieker, now there's a coach you can compare Dickey to, albeit apples and oranges.

We have pretty much reached the level that this coaching staff can achieve. Beyond this it will take a different style and plan. DD Ball has gotten us to the NO Bowl but we've only won it once. Our style of offense hasn't kept up with the improvements that our competition has. Right now we are predictable even with the passing plays (that weren't executed very well.)

We may find that the rest of the SBC has caught up with us. Or at least enough to impact our game results. Some of our plays looked like we hadn't even practiced them. Someone should be accountable. Guess who?

Actually Showalter left the year before they won the series. Bob Brenly was their manager when they beat the Yankees.

SO WHAT ? Until we get into another conference let the "beatings" continue. Better to WIN in this "terrible" conference than to lose, RIGHT ? biggrin.gif

untStein and eagle60 are on to something I have been asking myself for 2 years now....and that is:

What if DD is the type of coach that can't take us to the next level? There are many coaches that are good at taking teams to a certain level, but can't make the next step. Ken Hatfield is one and John Mackovick is another. At some point, we need to seriously look at this and move forward.

I am not suggesting that we get rid of DD, we just need to see if that is an option.

Also wondering if anyone notice that Troy's lines were bigger than ours? I didn't. In fact, I didn't see any of their players that were much better than ours. Funny because they have a new stadium that is supposedly the cure that DD needs to bringing in bigger, and better recruits.

This may seem simple, but from my seat here in Sunny Florida, given the fact that the Mean Green have an untested freshman -- FRESHMAN -- at QB and two -- TWO -- of the nation's leading -- LEADING -- rushers, you gotta wonder why UNT is running one-back and throwing the ball.

Like many of you pointed out, everybody knew the situation coming in. If not, they do now. One back isn't working. The freshman -- and I don't blame him a bit -- isn't getting it done in the air. That rushing touchdown last night showed he has feet, so why not change the gameplan?

Everyone is quick to blame coaches, and it's often misdirected. I'm certainly not one to call for heads based on a few losses. But I'm thinking this staff is in the "we'll prove we can do it with our own offense" mindset, and when you can't change, not even when you're losing and losing and losing, you can't be surprised when you keep losing.

From ESPN.com on the game: The sophomore running back had 30 yards more than rushing champions Jamario Thomas and Patrick Cobbs combined. The Trojans outgained North Texas 283 yards to 100 on the ground.

"Coach came out with a good game plan. He decided to run the ball and just keep the ball on the ground," Cattouse said. "The offensive line did a great job. I had a good feeling coming into this game. I knew we were going to run it well."

Seems like they're on to something.

Here's to letting our stud backs do what they do.

Great post!! I am tired of the excuses, I wish our coaching took this no BS approach that would at least take care of discipline.
