I guess this is just some more of that LSU hospitality that they keep telling us about.

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU athletic director Skip Bertman has apologized to the Tennessee athletic director for the rowdy behavior of some LSU fans who pelted a Tennessee bus with beer bottles after the Volunteers' Monday night victory over the Tigers.

Officials from both schools and LSU Police said people threw the bottles at the last of Tennessee's four buses after the convoy came to a stop near the stadium, resulting in three cracked windows. Some fans also rocked the buses, according to LSU Police.

In his letter, Bertman congratulated Hamilton on Tennessee's come from behind 30-27 victory in overtime. He then went on to apologize to Hamilton, the school president and all Tennessee fans for the incident outside the stadium.

"As you know, there is unfortunately an element in every crowd that does not exhibit good sportsmanship," Bertman wrote. "And when crowds grow to the size of those on a football game day, it takes only a very small percentage of offenders to ruin the day for so many."

Bertman said the bottle throwers were not representative of all LSU fans.

"We are working hard to address the problem presented by the small percentage of people who, by their actions, damage the reputation of an entire University," Bertman wrote.

Well, you would think they would be more hospitable towards Texas teams, since this state took thousands of their citizens in to escape the floods becuase their dip "s" NO mayor and LA gov effed up.

Skip Bertman is full of horseshit. He has known that this type of behavior has been present at LSU for years, and not only has the LSU administration tolerated it, they have openly embraced it.

The only thing Skip is sorry about is that the story made the news. If it hadn't involved the athletic director from Tennessee, the LSU administration would have simply laughed it off. Now that it's made the national press, they have to pretend that they're trying to do something about it.

Bertman said the bottle throwers were not representative of all LSU fans.

Yes they are Mr. Bertman, and they will continue to be until your school decides to do something about it.

"We are working hard to address the problem presented by the small percentage of people who, by their actions, damage the reputation of an entire University," Bertman wrote.

Untrue again, those people WERE living up to the reputation of the entire university.

Although time TBA is still posted on the North Texas Athletics site, LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman has gone ahead and scheduled this game for a 7:00 start to appease his bottle throwing drunken hordes.

Sat, Oct 29 North Texas - - Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) 7 p.m.

Please note that the start times for all of LSU's remaining home SEC games are currently being evaluated (TBA). Because of obvious lack of institutional control regarding LSU's fans, North Texas and Appalachian St should also be moved to early afternoon starts.

Sat, Oct 15 Florida - - Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) TBA

Sat, Oct 22 Auburn - - Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) TBA

Sat, Oct 29 North Texas - - Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) 7 p.m.

Sat, Nov 05 Appalachian St. - - Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) 7 p.m.

Fri, Nov 25 Arkansas - - Baton Rouge, La. (Tiger Stadium) 1:30 PM

How does an earlier start help keep the drunken hordes under control? These people start "tailgating" 24 hours before kick-off most of the time.

On gamedays are you more drunk @ 1pm or 7pm?

The point that he was trying to make is that at 1 pm they have alrady been "tailgating" for about 19 hours, so what's the difference? Restricting the LSU drunk to only 18-ish hours of tailgating probably won't make a difference.

Now forfeiting a game on account of that drunken white trash; that might have an effect.

I'd pay to see someone tailgate from 7pm to 1pm the next day, and then attend a football game on their feet for 3 1/2 hours, only to stand outside and wait for the buses 1-2 hours after the end of the game.

Now some of my fellow Inferno members pulled a 24 hour tailgate, but they each got about 5-6 hours of sleep at least.

It's well known to the LA natives that this type of behavior happens, but most LSU fans don't get all crazy towards other teams unless they are either a rival, ranked, or in the SEC. I speak from experience.
