Question for the long time fans

Have our recruiting classes become better over the years we have been in 1-A? We have a tendency to hype each class, but it seems that our best class may have been several years ago. Back when we had nothing to offer in the way of wins, conference titles and facilities. Have we become bigger, stronger, faster, more athletic and overall are closing the gap in the recruiting race? I have to assume we have made progress. Yet still, when we matched up against Southern Miss. last year I looked out on that field and we looked like we did not belong. Our players just did not look like they matched up. I would like to hear the opinions of those close to the team. Those that have been going to practices and games for years now. Looking for some perspective here........

Basically it's like this. Other states do not have as many big time schools as Texas does. Kids from other states are not going to leave their home to come to North Texas. Plus we really dont recruit outside of the southwest. We get the kids that Texas and A&M dont want. But they are still ours, whether they are too small, too slow, or too short. But real big time players are not going to choose to come here bc the best we can offer them is the NO Bowl. We cant offer a shot at a national championship.

We are recruiting at the 1-AA level and trying to play 1-A OOC games. The SBC is only a 1-AA league masked as D-1A. To say we compete with the SBC recruits only says we rank in the top 25 in 1-AA. Yes we have 20 more scholarships than 1-AA, but are we getting 20 more D-1A caliber players? You can say recruiting lists mean nothing, but when we have for years never had more than 1 or 2 recruits in the area let alone state 100 it tells something. I think back to all the hype about recruiting classes and then see us in the pathetic situation we now find ourselves and now clearly see all the hype was just fan fodder. As was once said on this board when we play true D-1A programs it's our all district players against their all state players. We run up against young players that kill us such as the KSU back from Richardson Pierce who were in our own back yard yet they choose to go far from home rather than come here. We have sung the lack of facilities song to the press for sooooo long that recruits believe it and no longer come to visit even though we now have the facilities.

Get your head out of your a$$ and see what is holding this program back..............

Could he be talking about the man who promised to raise $95 million in five years when he took over as athletic director?
