....and 19 first downs along with 24 points with a quarter to go. And TSU had a couple of other chances to score such as a halfback pass to a wide open reciever who snuck 10 yards behind the defense but was overthrown by five yards. That should have made it 31 to 41 a&m late in the 3rd quarter.

What an exciting, smart offensive game plan that moved the chains and kept the aggressive a&m offense off ballance.

The BobCats may get blown out as they cannot stop McNeal, and they shouldn't. But they are giving a clinic on how smaller, slower, less financed programs can go out and offensively take it to the big dogs, rather than going 3 and out all night long, hoping to keep the clock moving to get the game over without any injuries and go home along with the check.

Interestingly I noticed that every time TSU got within 25 yards of the aggie endzone in the first half there was the yellow hanky. Things never change do they?

of course, wouldn't you know it. TSU on the aggie 2 yard line and what looks to be a sure pass interference call on a&m is miraculously against the TSU tightend. Nearly every TSU drive inside the aggie 20 yard line they have drawn a flag.

TSU forced to go for it on 4th down from the 12, incomplete.

What a screw job by the big 12 officials.

I'll go ahead and say it. I add ATM to my worst uniforms list. First off, Maroon is an arse ugly color. But those look like the cheapest jerseys you can buy. The mesh is so thin, you can see their white undershirt. Those look like my middle school practice uniforms, only a different color. Sad thing is, thats their freaking game unis.

So how many refs are their on the field? the pressbox?

Whoa, ULM won. They beat FAU, who didnt look that bad vs Okie st, they just shot themselves in the foot.

First down a&m so they can sit on the ball and get this embarrassment over with.

Not one penalty against TSU was showed on replay at any point in the game that I saw.

Ok, seriously, ATM is up by 13 with less than a minute to go, TSU with the ball deep in their own endzone, and its 4th down. What is the freaking point to calling a supposed unsportsmanlike against TSU?

The worst penalty I saw was the roughing the punter call....the guy shanked the punt so maybe he did get hit, but you're right---a replay was never shown(or did I just miss it?)...which is odd in this game b/c they've shown replays on nearly EVERY play.

Final Total: a&m 41, TSU 31.

One might say a&m is very lucky TSU shot itself in the foot so much: 15 penalties for 143 yards, and many of them came when a&m needed them most because they could not stop the Bobcats.

TSU puts up 497 yards of offense on Texas a&m

Their QB Nealy goes 26 of 37 for 373 yards. Because of that,

TSU rushed for 124 yards on 29 attempts for an average of 4.3 yards per rush. And their running backs look slow compared to what we are used to.

David Bailiff is the TSU head coach. Not too damn bad for a guy who has only had ONE full recruiting season to install HIS SYSTEM for this, only his SECOND SEASON at Texas State.

When your trying to grow your fan base, sell season tickets and earn respect, that's the way you go about it.

That's the way to take it to the big dog.

That's the way to get ready for conference.

That's the way to make sure guys like me are buying season tickets 20 years later.

SE-66, it is probably the hope of many that after we finish out the new Mean Green Athletic Village with that shining buckle on those 200 acres of sprauling, rolling Texas prairieland, ie, our new football stadium, that Texas State will take the University of North Texas spot in the SBC as we go to another conference. Now which league that would be could possibly end up being the surprise of the century as far as Mean Greeners are concerned. I think we will have another option or 2 than just CUSA, but that is all I am going to say about that.

As far as the Texas State offensive performance last night, we might all recall that we, too, had some pretty decent offensive teams at the 1-AA level. Some of those 1-AA Mean Green offenses that would be competiive (if not dominant) in the Sun Belt Conference today. Lest we also forget, some of those 1-AA Mean Green offenses played a huge part in beating a handful of teams in the now defunct Southwest Conference among others.

The irony of all ironies at NT is how our head football coach and offensive coordinator were both good NCAA D1-A quarterbacks at their respective schools, yet the irony part is how the position of QB is hardly the dominant role in a UNT offensive game plan. Actually, I've wondered at times how many D1-A offenses are that successful without a more prominent role by its QB? Of course, all of us Monday Morning QB's can always theorize (2'nd guess?) on all aspects of our athletic (football) program since we are not on the NT payroll or on the firing line.

Also, as some of you have pointed out in the past few months, this was to be the great Andrew Smith's team to QB in this 2005 football season (and may God rest his soul). For certain, we have had other set-backs and personnel losses with this 2005 Mean Green football team that no one could have anticipated and IMHO, no one should have to take any semblance of blame for, either, with our NT coaching staff at the top of that list. There are just some times in the life of a college football program when you are just going to experience some bad luck. The last 5 years, we in Mean Green Country have had more than our share of some good breaks that have allowed us to get out of college football purgatory and even allowed us to start a mega-major athletic building program that has probably even impressed some major NCAA D1-A schools at a few BCS outposts.

A few thoughts on the game:

On Texas State:

Good offensive line, but I don't know much about the Aggie DL.

Texas State had MUCH better athletes than I expected of them being a mid to low tier Southland team in recent history. I think that could change this year. They look good.

Their QB transfer from Houston is a stud. Very effective rolling left and throwing (kinda hard). Great poise and vision both running and passing.

Their defense as a whole looked small compared to the Aggies but they played fierce and hit hard.

Overall: Very impressed.

On Texas A&M:

I've watched 2 of their games this year and still cannot figure them out. I can't say I've ever been a big fan of Fran's offenses.

Overall: Perplexed.

At least the officials reviewed Neally's TD. They initially called him down at the 1. I was pretty sure he made it to the pylon.

BTW, I think the announcers were actually ATM's radio guys. They were saying something about it being a "simulcast," and I noticed the sideline reporter was wearing an ATM shirt.

This is Nealy's third year at TSU. And he was hurt part of last year. He got hurt the week before the Baylor game in which their second string QB, Chase Wassom of Southlake Carrol, stepped in and came within a TD of beating the bears going 12 of 26 for 169 yards and two TD's. One 73 yard TD went to ex NT reciever K.R. Carpenter, who by the way is TSU's all time single season reception leader.

Nealy came back in time to help the Bobcats play within a TD of FAU in San Marcos. Yes you read that right, this was against FAU and Baylor in 2004.
