Here are some thoughts that have gone through my head the last few days...................... Our passing game struggled against Tulsa but so did the almighty ou sooners. They have played in the last 2 titles games and had the number 1 QB recruit in the nation a couple of years ago and his stats were 5-13- 2 int's and 43 yards passing against Tulsa. Tulsa also played a very good Minnesota team close until the 4th quarter. Minn. has blown out everyone this year and may be the suprise Big 10 team. Tulsa has a good team and it was a game where once it started snowballing we didnt stop it................................................ Also our defense is not that bad and actually better than last year's. Against MTSU I thought they played well considering they were out there most of the night. Against Tulsa when the game was still close, our defense was playing well and they were forcing 3 and outs. When the field position changed that is when they started scoring. I dont care who you are when the other team starts from midfield everytime you are going to give up some points. I think the defense will be very good a few weeks down the road..................... I hate it that we cant drop or get in the shotgun and complete passes. Every team you watch has a passing game but for some reason we dont. Every pass we throw is play-action or a semi-rollout. I dont think we are complicated at all in the passing game and most of the time we just have 1 or 2 reciever route. Watching Boise and BG last night and seeing them sit in the pocket completing passes frustrated me. ........................ Maybe we will pull the shocker this week........I dont think it will happen but I also didnt think we would lose by 52 at home...........

BSU had 337 yards rushing

Zabransky had 14 carries for 64 yards

Jacobs ( All American watch list All ....) 18 for 36 for 220 yards

Team had 10 first downs all game

I must not understand your point.

I think many on GMG.com haven't really given Tulsa their due as of yet.

? One theory of what may have happened among some fandom last Saturday night at Fouts Field was that we may have thought we were playing last year's unsuccessful Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team with what we thought may have been the season end quality (excepp the USM game) of last year's Mean Green football team.

Tulsa had a very bad year last year and we (in deed) went to a bowl game, but most likely TU redshirted quite a few in their down season and were waiting for other key players (transfers?) that didn't play last year to become elgible this season and play a part of their 2005 team, ie, a team that almost beat the OU Sooners 2 weeks ago.

Last year people were giving FAU all the credit -- saying they MAY go undefeated -- they had all seniors and were *that* good.

Look at how they turned out. rolleyes.gif

I think people are more cautious in their apologist type posts this year. Tulsa *may* indeed be good, but let's wait and see how they do before we bow down to their greatness. We really may be that bad.

We really may be that bad.

We WERE that bad the other night, but there is no reason this team can't go out and compete. It is a question of focus, preparation and intensity. They either want it or they don't.

I understand your point exactly Calvin.

Zebranski averaged 8.8 yards per pass. They spread out a defense due to their well known, well established passing threat, and they set up the run with the pass. Once they have teams on their heels and the pass is established the running lanes are there. Boise had two backs with over 80 yards rushing because of it against Bowling Green(Mixing Orange and Brown does not make Green). Same reason you will see Tech at times have a couple of hundred yards rushing and even tonight, Texas State, a 1-AA team, have over 120 yards rushing against a big money big 12 powerhouse.

Instead, North Texas sets up the pass with the run. Only this year the run isn't working, and because we have shown our hand that we only have two routes for pass recievers and only one of them we can hit consistently: the back out swing pass, all a team has to do is stuff the run, and we're done.
