DENTON (9/22/05) - Many of the North Texas athletic events scheduled for this weekend have been postponed due to the potential effects of Hurricane Rita.

"With Hurricane Rita approaching the North Texas area, we have made the decision to postpone all home athletic events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday," said athletic director Rick Villarreal. "The safety of our student-athletes and staff is of the utmost importance and postponing these contests is the first measure to help ensure that safety. We will make every effort to re-schedule everything that is affected by this storm."

The women’s soccer games against Northwestern State on Friday, Sept. 23 and Texas Woman’s University on Sunday, Sept. 25 have been cancelled. Friday’s game with Northwestern State was scheduled to be played in Natchitoches and Sunday’s match with Texas Woman’s was to be played in Denton. No makeup date has been announced for either game.

The Mean Green volleyball team's home match against Louisiana-Lafayette scheduled for Friday was postponed as well.

The Mean Green Softball Invitational, scheduled for play on Friday and Saturday, will only play games on Friday. All Saturday games at Denia Park will not be played. Game times on Friday will change.

The Mean Green Tennis Invitational will also only play matches on Friday. The tournament was scheduled for play from Friday through Sunday.
