My wife and I were out of town for the last 10 days. Going through newspapers upon our return there was a small article in the FW Star Telegram that Kelsie Edwards is leaving the womens BB team. She played with an injury to her foot or leg last year.

Kelsie is from Mansfield Summit and would have been a Jr. next year. The 6-0 forward averaged 8.5 pots and 4.7 rebounds per game.

Didn't find this reported on this board so am posting it late.

I met her her freshman year when the team was introduced and passed out th eir schedules in the stands at a football game. She seemed like a good person and I have followed her career and have been proud of her accomplishments on the court. Hopefully she will return but if not she will be missed.

Kelsie was one of the leading scorers her freshman year and had not been for an injury would have been up there with Bobo last season....Some of the girls just dont seem to have the guts to play tough and play thru injuries...Kelsie played on a really jacked up knee last seaon while others sat out with little meaningless injuries. Talicia Sanders has promise because she plays (for lack of better phrasing) balls out 100% of the time...other than that i see nobody on this team as good as Kelsie down low. So Kelsie Edwards will be missed.

I agree. Kelsie wasn't afraid of contact down low and not many of the other girls do that. Don't think I've seen any of them throw any elbows either, and she was never afraid to do that. Not saying they need to be dirty, but she had an attitude about her that she was not to be messed with and would do what it took to get the job done.

Someone who is in a position to know told me it was "family problems" that caused Edwards to quit.

There are new NCAA practice rules this season that allow the whole team to practice in front of the coaches for a few hours a week before the official "midnight madness" date when full practice time is allowed.

The above source, who has seen every practice, said the Freshmen are just as good as their high school careers indicated and that Edwards probably would not have played a big role this season had she stayed. The same person said the NT women have an excellent chance to win the Sun Belt chamionship in 2005-2006.
