"It will be interesting to see how our D line stacks up against less talented O lines. The key will be getting a lead to force them to pass. Our pass rush is much improved this year with Evans, but unfortunately we haven't been able to force teams to pass. I'm sure UNT will get there yards, but I don't see them running over us. Its taken exceptional backs making exceptional plays to get yards on us. I don't think these guys are ever close to the first 2 guys we've faced.

Getting the lead is the key though"

I guess it's time to head over and introduce ourselves to the Tulsa board.

From watching the MTSU game I wouldn't say they were great (thats probably the first time for a lot of those Tulsa fans to see our 2 great backs).... lets hope for a breakout performance from both this Saturday against Tulsa.

The key for NT will be to stop their stud TE Garett Mills. He had something like 12 catches for 140 yds against OU, evein though he was cramping up the entire second half. He is without a doubt their biggest threat. We need to put someone with speed on him the entire game. I suggest Monroe.

What was wrong with the guys post?

All he said was that our running backs aren't as good as their first two opponents'.  I would probably agree with that.

Laurence Maroney and Adrian Peterson are studs!

I don't see the big deal, and, quite frankly, even if I feel they're underestimating our backs, I don't believe that's a bad thing. I'm certainly not going to go out of my way to educate them. That's the team's job. biggrin.gif

Agreed.

PC and JT have the skins on the wall to prove how good they are. And I won't lose any sleep if people think that Peterson and Maroney are better.

If I only saw the MTSU game, I'd think our RBs were weak, too. They'll put on a nice show on Saturday, though.

We had better watch their TE, though. Sharp, SHARP receiver with good routes and better hands.

The NFL scouts know what Cobbs and Thomas can do and I'm not worried what Tulsa fans think one way or another.

FWIW, I think the MUTS got a copy of the USM win over North Texas in the NO's Bowl and just simply tried to emulate what the Golden Eagles did to us with our running game at the Super Dome. It seemed to have worked everywhere except the scoreboard.

It's no secret that MUTS was going to stack the box against the run, and I'll think you'll continue to see it the rest of the year too. Then same thing is happening at OU. We have a red shirt freshman at QB, D-coordinators are going stack it against the run and force us to beat them with an inexperienced QB. Dickey and Flanagan are limiting our offense so not to overwhelm the Meager, Don't ask him to do to much or even to win the game. Just work with the limited offense, don't make mistakes, and hope the defense can come through for us.

If defenses are going to stack against the run, you need to create some room with play action passes and downfield throws. As the game wore on and Meager was getting more comfortable you saw Flanigan opening things up a bit more, it's no coincidence that this is when you saw JMO and COBBS start to get some more room to run.

The fact Meager had no major breakdowns or mistakes is going to go a long way to building his poise and confidence. You gotta remember the coaches have to learn to trust the QB too,

As the season progreses you are gonna see more of this gameplan. Each week they add a little more to the offense as Meager gains poise and experience

So expect more of the same against Tulsa, They will stack the box against the run. Some will call Dickey/Flanigan's offense boring, one-dimensional, and predictable. But with a team as young as ours they are just doing what they can with the hand they've been delt.
