DENTON (9/7/05) – In dominating fashion the North Texas (3-2) women’s soccer team notched its third straight win, handing Grambling State (1-3) a 6-0 loss at the Mean Green Soccer Complex.

Sophomore forward Heather Hutyra recorded her second consecutive hat trick as she ended the night with three goals, one assist, and seven points. She is only the fourth player in North Texas history to record a hat trick in back-to-back games and the first player to do so since Melinda Pina in 2003.

“I was happy that we were able to get everyone involved,” said North Texas head coach John Hedlund. “This is a nice game to have and gets us some more momentum for Friday’s game with Missouri State”.

The Mean Green jumped on top of the Lady Tigers in the first minute of the match and never looked back. Hutyra, the reigning Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, scored 69 seconds into the game from 20 yards out.

Eight minutes later junior Kristin Campbell made it 2-0 as she scored her first goal of the season off a feed from Hutyra 15 yards out.

North Texas added a third goal in the first half as junior Jamie Yates collected her first goal of the year in the 33rd minute of play on a centering pass from freshman Gennifer Hurst.

Hutyra added her second goal of the game in the 53rd minute off a steal in the Lady Tigers end from 10 yards out. She completed the hat trick just two minutes later on a deflection in the Grambling State box.

Campbell notched her second goal of the night in the 58th minute off a free kick from 20 yards out to make it 6-0.

The Mean Green fired 35 shots in the game, tied for the sixth most in school history.

All three North Texas goalkeepers saw action as sophomore Kandice Ellis picked up her third straight win.

North Texas continues its four-game homestand on Friday with a battle against Missouri State at 7 p.m.
