I we do have to cancel the game with LSU, we will need to find a way to replace the 500k that we lose from the athletic budget. This means attendence at home games is a must for financial reasons. Also, Mean Green Club donations will be VERY important.

Are there any other ideas on how to replace these funds?

This is a great opportunity for the Mean Green Nation to step-up our giving and participation in fund raising.

Steal it from the Red Cross!

At a time like this do you really think its appropriate to be asking for donations to a football team? As many as 1 million americans lost their homes last week. As many as 2 million americans are displaced.

The terrorist have won.

No one was saying to divert money. People can go above and beyond and donate to more than one cause.

Maybe I should recall my MGC donation and give it to the Red Cross. Maybe I should sell my season tickets and donate that ... oh .. who am I kidding? No one would buy them anyhow. I should sell the Mavs season tickets though.

I highly doubt he was sugggesting to NOT give to the Red Cross and give exclusively to UNT.

And I'm guessing that your point is that we no longer go to football games and promote the home games. NT football should just shut down. Forget the rest of the season, we no longer have the right to promote our program and sell tickets.

I don't see why what you give to the school has anything to do with what you give to the Red Cross.

I guess we should call the NFL and tell them to cancel all of this weekends games. Afterall, if we just cancel the game, maybe people will give the money they were going to spend on a ticket to the game to the Red Cross instead.

Why are you on this board? I guess you should be on the disaster relief board! Give me a break.

My guess is that you are reading this board because despite the tragedy in Gulf, you still are intrested and care about NT football!

I have been working 10 hours a day at Camp Copass with 300 transplants from New Orleans who have no home. Don't you dare tell me you can't do both. Life must go on. More than anything, these people just want their old life back. Shutting the world down to focus on the pain doesn't cut it.

Moving back to the main topic of this thread (Shaft's comment doesn't deem a response, and John Denver answered it well)...

We could potentially schedule a game with another team who needs an extra game. This has already been suggested many times, and I don't see how an extra home game can hurt our attendance numbers. Although the payout wouldn't be as large, coupled with some additional donations from our alumni and Mean Green club, we might be able to at least come closer to making up the deficit. You know, at this point, I'd love to see if Oklahoma could come down. After that sorry showing on Saturday, they might be humble enough to come do what they should have two years ago in the first place - play us a home and home.

Seriously though, it is a problem for us to lose the LSU game. I can understand a bit from ULM's point of view why they don't want to move the games around, but it's not like we haven't already bent over backwards for the SBC this year, and in years past. We've rescheduled our games plenty of times, and other members of the Belt have as well. I think Monroe should get something positive out of the situation, but they should also be good Sun Belt bretheren. But to answer your question, I don't know exactly what we can do if we lose the chance to play LSU, and I think the problem is that neither does the Athletics Dept.

If LSU has to pull out NT will get some type of money from the deal. Say $200,000 would we want to take the money considering the situations? no. Would we? yes. That money is nothing to an athletic department at a school like LSU.

No... I think Denver has something here.

Terrorists hate America,

America's signature animal is the Eagle,

The Eagle is the Mascot of the University of North Texas,

The University of North Texas was the site of filming for Necessary Roughness starring Scott Bakula,

Scott Bakula was in American Beauty with Barry Del Sherman,

Barry Del Sherman was in Picture Perfect with Kevin Bacon!
