More and more the mention of North Texas is happening in threads from other boards. Page 2 brings some North Texas discussion in this thread from the CUSA board.

UNT might well end up in CUSA in about five years. Of course it will be a CUSA that probably does not include Memphis, UAB, East Carolina, Marshal, UCF, and probably not Southern Miss.

The tension between the western and eastern divisions of the league is mounting. Scuttlebutt is that they only things they haven't fought over have been the items they haven't discussed.

Good, the more tension, the better the chances more openings will happen for some SBC teams.

Throw in NMSU for a UTEP and LAMO for La Tech and you have one nice conference full of rivalries.

Take the Belt - CUSA - plus a couple of MAC schools - stick them in a cup and shake them up - and out rolls two nice regional conferences. But it will take more of what has happened to CUSA for this to happen. They have gone down a bowl this year, possibly two. They will STILL be at 4 or 5 bowls, but they lost their crown jewel. After it gets down to 2 or 3 - and the Belt has 2, and the MAC has 2 or 3... then the schools will see that there is not much of a difference separaring them.

Maybe one CUSA east school goes to the Big East. The rest align with current Sun Belt schools.

2009 is about when the next hit of realignment should come along and at that point there will be little action in the BCS other than the Big East maybe adding one school. The MWC will probably stand pat or add one. The MAC is basically full. The potential for realignment is in reshuffling CUSA and the Sun Belt and adding La.Tech to the mix.

The new CUSA is going to be sweet. Is anyone really putting stake in message board rumors before the new conference has even played game 1?

CUSA regional set up is going to be great at developing regional rivalaries and even matched conference games. It has more bowl options than any other mid-major and a headquaters in Texas. What more could a conference want?

The new CUSA's problem isn't rivalries or geography. Their biggest problem is getting along. The eastern schools have a different vision for the league than do the western private schools. The eastern AD's fought replacing TCU at all. Their presidents were swayed by the privates. The privates fought going to 12 games. The western schools weren't willing to devote the financial resources to keep the Liberty because they were more than happy with the idea of sending the champ to Houston while the eastern schools considered it essential to spend the money. They fought over the title game set-up. They have fought over the format for the cross-over games.

Unless they can iron out their differences in the meeting rooms the league will be hard pressed to stay together.

----Maybe SMoo is like Terrel Owens... where-ever they are they want to run things ---but instead ruin things. After all CUSA head-quarters is now in Dallas so Smoo may think they are in charge now.

They have a history of making their own rules.
