HOLD YOUR HORSES:

The computer likes the favorite, but by fewer points than the oddsmakers.

Thursday, September 1

SOUTH CAROLINA (-18.5) 8 over UCF - The oddsmakers must be thinking that Steve Spurrier will try to run up the score on a team that comes in to Columbia riding the nation's current longest losing streak at 15 games. Does South Carolina have the talent to pull it off?

Saturday, September 3

GEORGIA (-6.5) 2 over Boise State - If the computer were to factor in the five players suspended from the Bulldogs' opener with Boise State, Georgia would actually be a 3-point underdog. As it is, Mark Richt's team is only favored by 2 based on a full-strength contingent of players. If Georgia blows out the Broncos with less than a full deck, we will know that Boise was over-rated. But a close Georgia win, or even a close Bulldog loss, won't offer the respect BSU is looking for. If Boise State is to climb to the next level, they must win this game. The computer is perfect straight up on Boise State games over the past three seasons and 44-4 over the past 4 years.

Southern California (-32) 21 over HAWAII - Flying to the pacific island to play a football game has caused problems for a lot of teams. It's why the Warriors' season-opening home loss to FAU last year was such a shocker. But Hawaii rebounded to win its last 7 regular season home games and the Hawaii Bowl. Its recent home victims include Northwestern, Michigan State, Fresno State and Alabama.

LSU (-32) 24 over North Texas - The one-two RB punch of Jamario Thomas and Patrick Cobbs should allow UNT to kill some clock and score a few points, making it tough for the Tigers pull off a rout of this magnitude.
