The *Telegram has a hughe article and picture of Jamario and Cobbs on the front page of their sports section this morning with more on page 9 D.. It is not on line yet.

Most of stuff is not new but here's some extracts:

How can little 'ol North Texas produce the country's past two leading rushers? and what makes Jamario and Cobbs so darn successful?

The answers are the same for both queries. The Mean Green has an offense that give running backs the opportunity to achieve big numbers, but those players need a rich supply of talent to excel in the system. "I truly believe its a system that features and allows an outstanding talent to showcase their skills. If you just plugged any yo-yo in there, your not going to get the same results.

It them compare great duos of past seasons: Doc Blanchard and Glenn Davis, Crowley and Miller Notre Dame, White and Allen Souther Cal, Sanders and Thomas OK St, Dicerson and Craig James SMU,

The duo and DD's ball control offense are at their best when the offense finishes with 40 to 50 carries a game. NT was 7 -1 when rushing at least 40 times.

NT primarily uses zone blocking with emphasis on double teams and combination blocks. The running backs are granted creative freedom to make the most out of their carries, choosing the biggest hole after patiently waiting for them to develop.

It also helps to have an efficient QB who keeps defenses honest with play action passes. A big stricke of 2 with play action passes will prevent opponents from keying on the running.

No coincidence that Nt has had a 1,000 yd back in 5 of the last seasonas after having only 4 in the previous 49 seasons.

I will post the entire article when it is available. on line. biggrin.gifrolleyes.gifsmile.gif

Well well well. There's an interesting bit of insight. cool.gif

I'll settle for "efficient" in our QB position this year.

The article is now available through their on line edition.

I loved the quote by Coach Dickey speaking of Jamario " There were some times last year when the play would start early on , and one of the coaches would say 'Where in the hell is he going', Dickey said. Then we'd look up and say apparently he's headed for the end zone". That is funny.
