Soccer team to face Louisiana-Lafayette today

After a short two-game home stand, the Mean Green soccer team heads back on the road for a three-game road trip.

NT's first test is against Louisiana-Lafayette (4-5-3, 1-1-1) at 7 p.m. today.

The Mean Green has beaten the Ragin' Cajuns both times the two teams have faced off with NT shutting them out both times.

NT (9-4, 3-2) could earn its 100th win in school history with a victory over Louisiana-Lafayette.

Besides the century mark in wins for the team, it would also secure a winning season. This would make the eighth straight year in which the team had a winning season.

In the Mean Green's last game, it shut out Sun Belt Conference foe, Middle Tennessee 6-0.

In the match, both junior forward Marilyn Marin, and sophomore forward Melinda Pina earned hat tricks. It was Pina's first game back since the Sept. 22 3-0 win against Tulsa.

For her work Pina earned Sun Belt Player of the Week honors from the conference.

"We have three games left in the conference," head coach John Hedlund said.

"We feel like if we win those three games, we can get the second seed in the [sun Belt Conference] tournament and anything can happen. We want to get an easy game going into the tournament and rest some of the starters."
