Well I had a few and as a result I am revising my Sun Belt football predictions for this season. I’ll leave you guys alone and at the end of the year see how close I came. I’m sure you guys will save a nice big peace of fresh cooked crow for me. Anyway have a good year and best of luck to everyone.

Sun Belt Record / Overall Record and who they get beat by in the conference.

#1 MTSU 6-1 / 8-3 (Troy)

#2 UNT 5-2 / 6-5 (Troy, MTSU)

& ULM 5-2 / 6-5 (UNT, MTSU)

#4 ASU 4-3 / 6-5 (ULM, UNT, MTSU)

& Troy 4-3 / 5-6 (ULM, ULL, ASU)

#6 ULL 3-4 / 5-6 (ASU, MTSU,UNT, ULM)

#7 FIU 1-6 / 2-11 (All but FAU)

#8 FAU 0-7 / 0-11 (All)

I am assuming Jyles will be available at ULM.

Just curious SI, why do you think Troy will be so great? Everything I have read says that they lost a lot on defense, which is what made their season last year. Also, they did not have a strong offense, and they lost their quarterback that provided most of their offense.

I just don't see it?

I think the Sunbelt may be shocked to see how good UNT is at our non QB positions; we win this year easier than last year.

I am basing it on the fact that Troy was probably as good as any team in the league last year even without an offence and they return their starting QB. That is big. They had the best depth on defense of any Belt team. Also, Troy return 8 starters (4/4) and 37 lettermen (19,16,2) and UNT returns 9 starters (5/4) and 33 letterman (14,17,2) (not counting Cobbs).

Both teams will be coming off similarly tough road games the previous week (Troy at SC and UNT at KSt) but UNT’s early schedule (LSU, MTSU, Tulsa, and K St) is a much more grueling than Troy’s (Cal Poly, UAB, Missouri, South Carolina). Factor in my predicted loss to MTSU and I think that UNT will be a less than full steam for this game and it will be the first conference game for Troy.

But to our Native American friend, Troy U has to come to our house in a ESPN game that (last I heard) will probably have ex NT Coach Hayden Fry back with many who played for him in a reunion which will only be part of a most festive evening. Key words with this game vs Troy U is: Our House

Does Troy U host MT this Fall?

Yes.

Also, special teams between the two are a wash with both expected to be outstanding. The only reason I am going with Troy is they will have played a less grueling schedule and they have a QB with a year’s experience. That’s it.

And that is the answer I was hoping for from you. Troy U will be tough for MT to beat in Alabama.

That could be my bad and I may have been thinking of the scuttlebutt that Jyles (ULM) is returning. If that is the case then I would say it is a big plus for UNT. Troy’s #2 QB, Meadows, has starting experience at E Tenn St but I do not know how well that will help him as far as being ready for a 1A game.

I don't see NT blowing most anyone in the SBC out of the tub this Fall--we didn't last year for the most part.

I should have made it clear that Troy plays Cal Poly and UAB at Home and whereas UNT only has Tulsa at Home before their game. That is why I feel it is much more grueling for UNT.
