LSU will open the 2005 season at home against a pretty good North Texas team that went 7-5 last season with all seven wins against Sun Belt Conference teams. North Texas is coached by Darrell Dickey who has posted a 3726 record in seven years as head coach for the Mean Green. North Texas returns six starters on offense including Jamario Thomas who rushed for 1802 yards and 18 touchdowns in 10 games. Also returning in the backfield will be Patrick Cobb who led the nation in rushing two years ago but took a redshirt year in 2004 because of an injury. North Texas' biggest challenge on offense will be to find a replacement for quarterback Scott Hall who was a four-year starter. The leading candidate to replace Hall is sophomore Joey Byerly (6’4”, 250) who has good speed for a player his size. Byerly has two excellent receivers in Joe Quinn and Joel Nwigwe. The offensive line for the Mean Green only returns two starters in Jason Mays and Dylan Lineberry. North Texas only returns four starters on defense but they do have two outstanding returning starters in linebacker Brandon Moore and defensive back T.J. Covington who is an outstanding pro prospect.

I think it will be a long night in Tiger stadium for the Mean Green who will have a long ride back to Denton Texas. Coach Miles will get his first win as the head coach at LSU and will be able to play a lots of players. Dandy Don's pick is LSU 44North Texas 7. In my Tuesday morning update I will write about Arizona State.

I would love to dispute some of that....but he is pretty close to right on. I have the game LSU-45 - North Texas 17. I would love to be wrong on this one, but my focus will be to survuve the LSU game, and stay healthy for MTSU. I know a lot of people wont like that, but 9-2 or 8-3 still gets us to the Big Easy. This team still succeeds this season whether LSU beats us by 7 or 40, so the game just doenst mean much to me. I dont like losing either, but a 1-1 start to this season works for me. Just please no injuries in Baton Rouge...

Thanks for the post, Harry.

lsu's defense is loaded and defense is always ahead of offense early on. because of that, i am expecting about 14 points (maybe). i spoke to a buddy who graduated from UT who thinks we will be close late with a chance to pull it out in the end. it may've been some perrilux (sp?) anger in his prediction, but i think he'll have to throw us a few balls for us to stay close (which is why i'm hoping he starts). all i expect is a 2-2 non conference schedule.

Well, FWIW I simulated the UT game last year, and we won... of course I guess we all know how that worked out...

Well, maybe my program is better than your program. tongue.gif At least I hope so.

LSU 48

NT 3

I hope it is that close but it my be worse. LSU will contend for the national title this season and we can't even beat Florida Atlantic AT HOME. We have a new QB, new D-line, new safeties, new tight end. It could get ugly guys.

That Ryan kid has too many off the field issues and doesn't have the respect of his teammates or his coach. I don't expect him to play much and if he does he won't play well. If he starts the game will be close until they put in the other QB.

Pffffffft.......I'd be happy if you were RIGHT on that one.

I think Eagle-96's prediction is way more likely.

I think we lose the pregame as well just by intimidation of Mike the Tiger. When the final gun sounds it's 70-0 just so LSU can say it one upped UT on whipping the sacrificial lamb just as they did in stealing the QB recruit.

Too bad he'll be a bust.

I think a bigger problem will be how his I'm-bigger-than-the-world attitude affects the chemistry of the program. nothing can destroy a team like a big mouth...especially his.
