Funding source for Business Bldg?

Today's star telegram had an article about Gov Perry allowing legislation to let colleges issue tuition revenue bonds to build new academic facilities into the special session. The article only mentioned a new Engineering building at UTA but I would believe if that were possible then the new business building at NT would be possible.

UTD got funding for a new building as well as per my dad = Professor at UTD.

According to this morning"s Dallas Morning News, the House version of the bill would give universities authority to issue bonds, which would be repaid by students' tuition. The state will pay the interest on the bonds. The construction money is allocated as follows:

University of Texas System $1.1 billion

Texas A&M System $683 million

Texas State University System $295 million

North Texas System $161 million

University of Houston $158 million

Texas Tech University System $89 million

Obviously, between these 3 system schools: UH, Texas Tech and University of North Texas, the allocations might also be an indicator of which one (out of the 3) is expecting the most growth. Growth needs more facilities and facilities needs the funding.

I thing we all know a superb place just off Interstate 35-E where they could build another 2 dorms and an academic bldg (or 2). ; that is, they can begin doing that after we have a special implosion party 2'nd to none ever had in the Lone Star State.

Unfortunately it appears they are leaning towards building the newest two dorms behind Clark and Maple respectively. This is horrible in that it will be a serious safety issue and several hundred spots of Resident parking will be gone, as well as game day parking.

And they want to close the 'P' parking lot in front of Clark to rub more salt on the wound. Students wouldn't be so up in arms if they were opening lots as quickly as they're being closed.

My guess (and only my guess) is that the idea is to make parking a more serious issue at North Texas - thus pushing for students to live on campus or around campus like most major Universities. It helps us attract a conventional/traditional student. Traditional students spend more time on campus and are more likely to come back to campus after graduation and be involved/give back to the University.

They will need to build more parking garages since the Chancellor and President want their clear view of the Tower from their Offices in the Gateway. Guess they will still have their parking spots even if everyone else loses their's.
