I'm not drinking the green cool-aid here, either. No one thinks we have a shot....but that's the logical thought. What doesn't show on paper...is what will show up in Baton Rouge Septebmer 3rd...the intangibles. Turnovers and offense will determine this game....then there are those intangibles. Those are the big killers. What The Mean Green have going for them here is Dickey-Ball. Back-to-Back National Rushing Champions in Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas. We will control the clock, but also be able to keep the Tigers honest by passing the ball to our bevy of great receivers, returning star of which is Johnny Quinn.

So, now, to our great friends in the land of Death Valley. Get set for "Showtime" from the Mean Green! I hope we're 40 point under-dogs. If so, you Tiger fans might want to bet on the Mean Green, not only to cover the spread, but to by God, win the damned game!

Every year, it's the same thing, Rick ole pal.

You predict a win over a UT,OU, LSU or whatever big team we open with.

And every year, the game isn't even close. Remember 65-0, in a game that wasn't even THAT close.

Why will this year be ANY different?

(Remember LSU has a new coach and there's no way Les Miles will want to open up his LSU career with even a close game against UNT).

BINGO--SUMG. This one will get very ugly very fast. It's 0-92 in two trips to UT and don't tell me the first was a moral victory when we were down by the eventual final score of 0-27 at halftime!! Best chance against LSU ----start calling dial-a-prayer. sad.gif

Yep, we'll control the clock just like we did last year against Texas. What'd we have the ball for, 20 minutes? Somebody is drinking gallons of green Kool Aid -- unless it's random comments for shock value like Randy Galloway occsionally does. Y'know, I find if people bet the opposite of Green Grenade's predictions, you can clean up in Vegas. wink.gif

The advantage that we have is that they are replacing a head coach, starting QB, among other players. But then we are doing the same at QB and, let's face it, we don't have the horses they have. I think if there is even the smallest "So you are saying there's a chance..." (dumb and dumber) situation it could be this one of all the large teams we play like UT, OU, etc. But more likely that we will end up losing something like 51-3.

It's always fun to hope and maybe.... just maybe, half of the team will be out kicking it Tiger style the night before and be hung over on game day. tongue.gif

Last week on CSTV I watched the replay of the TROY vs LSU game from last october and Troy had the game tied 17 17 most of the game and went ahead 24 to 17with about 6 minutes to go in the game...LSU pulled it out in the end but if TROY can nearly beat them then I know we can...I know you guys are gun shy after all these years of defeats to big powerhouse teams but you are entering a new error at UNT and you have to shed your tears of the past and get behind the team 100%. LSU can be beat! Our Team can beat LSU!!! DEFEAT is not in our vocabulary!!!! Thats the mindset you need and the mindset you need to bring to our team. Like Jack Palance says in the SkinBracer commercial. "Confidence is sexy, isn't it". you get that kind of attitude and the young men playing the game will get it to. Thats half the battle. You know, alot of the young men on the team are from very successful High School programs. They were great ball players on their teams and that will carry over to their college carreers if the fans will get behind them. That kind of attitude can carry over into attendance also and fill the stands....after all, everyone loves a winner.

True but confidence comes from the top. Does Darrell Dickey think NT can beat LSU? huh.gif

Being realistic yes LSU will win. They will be favored by 24-34 pts in Vegas. Yes they might cover they might not. But make no mistake this is football and yes there is a chance we could win. Very Small. Very unlikely given LSU talent level. There will be a series where UNT will move the ball, there will be a series where LSU will make a mistake and make a turnover.

My prediction is it won't be another UT game. That should not have happened and we were not prepared with all that was going on. Look for a game with LSU in the 40's and UNT with 1 or 2 scores.

If I had to bet my last dollar on this game I would put it on LSU and the over.

Southern Miss last played LSU in 1994 in Baton Rouge. I was at that game. It was the first away game I ever attended. We were 5-5 going into that game. That season we had lost to Virgina Tech by 10 points, Texas A&M by 24 points, East Carolina by 21 points, Alabama by 8 points and Florida by 38 points. No one gave us a chance in H3ll of winning against LSU. We finished the season with a 6-5 record after beating LSU 20-18. Because the team never gave up. Period. I've never seen a stadium so big and and so full of people empty so quickly. By contrast, the 1000 USM fans stayed in the stands. We didn't want to leave. The team cameback on the field and over to our section and we all danced and cheered. Don't give up on your team so soon, guys. It can happen. I've been there and I've seen it first hand. biggrin.gif

You can hope LSU comes out flat like they did against Troy last year and keep it close but I don't see that happening again.

ccs178--- its a bit different LSU team we are facing this year than the one yall faced in 1994:

LSU's records in the early 90's under Hallman

1991 - 5-6

1992 - 2-9

1993 - 5-6

1994 - 4-7

1995 - 7-4

LSU records in the early 00's under Saban

2000 - 8-4

2001 - 10-3

2002 - 8-5

2003 - 13-1

2004 - 9-3

Saban is clearly the best coach LSU has had in a while, but under Les Miles, how good will LSU be? Clearly he enjoys a ton of talent Saban has stockpiled, but who knows... Ok State wasnt EVER in the running for a Big 12 title, much less the big 12 south. I dont think the SEC is much easier...

Who knows what will happen. I'll be there to witness it, and Im hoping for a miracle

We weren't as good then either. Rather mediocre actually. It can be done, it isn't impossible. For many, many people perception is reality. Before you can change the perception of North Texas from the outside, you have to change the perception from the inside. Though if you win, just don't call it a miracle. If you win, it is earned and not divine intervention. Just my $0.02. Take it for what it's worth.

Only time will tell, but we believe OSU's success was due mainly to Gundy who is now head coach. I'm not sure that Les Miles will have the success at LSU that their fans are hoping for. The current talent there will carry him at least for this year.

I agree 100%... to be big time, you have to start acting/thinking big time... Southern Miss and Fresno State have done a good job of this with the "anyone anytime mentality"... I think it is just around the corner at NT

Ahh yes, I didnt mean it in the actual divine sense, just that I can assure you LSU will be heavily favored (our last meeting was 52-0 in 99)... and if we pull it off, it will be one of the biggest of the year. No question.

Agreed!
