I would!!! It would be fun to collect season shirts, although for students that might be a little high  dry.gif

Yeah the problem is you get shirts cheap by ordering in bulk and the doing the order handling, fulfillment, shipping, and customer satisfaction jobs on your own.

We just don't have the time/man power for that.

In order to do anything like that, we would have to use a 3rd party store front, and of course, they are going to have a high price on what they charge us per item, and that gets passed on down.

Something like this would be a good money making project for the Talons. Since they are a sanctioned University spirit organization, and they are NON-PROFIT, they don't have to mess with the licensing stuff. Rick and I know someone who could do the shirts, and I think that some organizations on campus have used a t-shirt shop in Denton.

The most difficult part of it is getting the art-work done......and oh yeah,...finding some responsible students to see the project through.

Rick did most of the "EYES OF NORTH TEXAS" art work on his computer. The people that printed the shirts only touched it up a little.

The more they expect to win the worse it feels if and when they lose.... We can pray for their overconfidence and a good start by us...... [ unlike last years first few plays, those events take the wind out of a team, and destroy morale ]

Amen to that.... TALONS get off your butt and get to work! I love that idea. I hear you guys have a hell of an alum in Austin who is a great graphic artist. Just make some funny shirts. Then at least Win Lose or Draw you got the shirt to prove you were there.

Most schools do this in some form for many home games. I would love to see a student group do this for the home opener this year... maybe next year its the home opener and homecoming... the next year add parents weekend... etc etc.

Maybe if they wont the pit crew will???

I was thinking that various frats on campus would do a better job of doing this, but the more I think of it this does sound more like a talons project. Either way we could definitley benifit from advertising like this.

I'd love to see one for our opener with Tulsa. If it's possible to get them out early enough, you've got walking advertisements around campus, not to mention in the metroplex if alumni can get ahold of them too. I'd buy at least two. I second making them green.

Someone gets it. Get the students pumped up for the game....

OK, where are the TALONS at?

It will cost more, but print it on a GREEN shirt.

opening day is hot.... green tshirts make it even hotter... thats gonna be a hard one... just put a TON of green in the design.

Back in my day as a student was the last time we played SMU at Fouts Field. My fraternity decided to print up some t-shirts as a fundraiser, SMU was comming off the death penalty so we made up a simple shirt Front just had UNT vs SMU and date on the pocket area, On the back of the shirt it had a red and blue SMU logo only the mustang was on it's back , legs up in the air and a boot print w/ UNT on its hindquarter. Below it said "SMU- Always kick a horse when it's down"

We started selling Monday before the game, just word of mouth- walking around campus, taking some shirts to class. By Tuesday at noon we were sold out and made a bundle

If you want the TALONS to do it try not to pass out from holding your breath. The practically don't exist over the summer and come the fall...well, see the beginning of this sentence. <_<

I'd expect to see a more definitive result from another organization or from a group of alums fronting the money and expecting to make it back after they are sold. I for one would be willing to help with that.

Shaneb, thanks for the kind words. On a completely different subject, I see you are in Shreveport and was wondering which casino hotel is the best to stay in Saturday night after the La Tech game.

Check this T shirt out, which I think someone suggested something similar for NT in an earlier post. In fact, they are sold out for these shirts. This type of "thinking outside the box" marketing is nothing knew to such schools as LSU. They are not a household name for nothing. Both shirts were probably being worked on before their schedule was completed so that they could get them out ASAP.

By the way, even if you could get a designer started on this shirt right now, and it's going to be close to a 5 or 6 color shirt on white, your looking at at least a 4 to 6 week turnaround to get it out by a CLC licensed manufacturer(10 days for a local like Greenstock). Then you need someone with an online site to sell them, and have enough time to fill the orders. That is unless you want to sell them on campus and pay the 20% royalty fee. Talons could get that waved, but they will not be collectively back on campus to push this through until mid August. By then it's too late. Voertman's could have pulled this off had they been given enough heads up on it back in the spring?

For anyone wanting to try and pull this off I wish you good luck.

Rick... all due respect... this is not exactly outside the box marketing... its just good common sense.

Here is my question.... who is the Talon president and why has there been no response or even a post in regards to this? The president of "the" spirit group on this campus isn't connected to someone who reads this board? He/She doesnt read this board? What is the situation with the Talons and what can be done to make it better? Do the alumni not still influence the direction and drive of the group like a frat or other campus group??

I was asked to pledge Talons and didnt so I am ignorant of the situation. but I wonder how this group works and why you seem so convinced that they can't pull this off.

As for Voertman's.... no one should have to give them a heads up.... how long has the schedule been out to the public?? How many artists are on this campus... it just takes a little effort that no one seems to be putting together.

all of them will be expensive on a saturday night. Shreveport isnt like Vegas... there are no $3 buffets and $25 rooms at the boats. Expect to pay $100-150 a night min. unless you already have a history with the boat of your choice. Your mileage may vary.

Also, book FAR ahead of time this year. The Louisiana Boardwalk just opened and it added much traffic to a casino district that is almost (if not totally) booked on the weekends.

On the plus side... those who have not visited shreveport in a year will not recognize the river fronts.. they have changed greatly. They are awesome... plan to spend the day sunday on the riverfront shopping, eating and drinking and having a good time.

If you want to start another thread I will post more details.

In response to your questions:

1)I doubt highly that the Talons president does read this board. The president used to I know, it was me, but much has changed since then.

2)What can be done to make it better? Disband and regroup.

3)No, the alumni don't exert the influence that they once did. In fact the current crop of Talons even rewrote the constitution to take voting rights away from the alumni.

4)What the problem with Talons? They are handed $10,000 at the beginning of the year to do spirit related stuff. My generation (and those that came before us like Rick's) laid the groundwork for this to be justified because we were vocal, visible, and diligent. Today you've got a group that need not listen to anyone because you can't influence them with alumni or outside donations. They've got a virtual blank check (student service fees I might add) with which to do as much...or as little...as they please.

I would reccomend contacting Amy R. Ayres, Director of Student Activities and Organizations.

Phone: (940) 565-4413

Email: aayres@unt.edu

She falls under the Dean of Students Department and they may be able to help out in purchasing shirts and could recruit organizations to sell the shirts.

Otherwise, is there a local business that would be interested in sponsoring the shirt? Rudy's, Roadhouse, Riprocks/etc.?

I would promote Tulsa.
