NT hires womans golf coach. 6 year pro golfer

DENTON (7/6/05) – University of North Texas Director of Golf Jim Bob Jackson has announced that Amber Chevrie has been named the head coach of the women’s golf team. Chevrie comes to North Texas with an extensive background in golf as a player and as a golf professional.

“I’m excited about her coming to coach here she is going to be a real asset to the program and continue the success that Coach Padgett has built over the past few years,” said North Texas Director of Golf Jim Bob Jackson. “Being a golf professional for the last six years she will be able to come in and teach a lot of different things to our players”.

Chevrie was a four-year letterwinner and a first-team all-conference player at Hardin-Simmons University from 1995-99. Chevrie also earned academic all-conference honors during her career.

Chevrie was a golf professional at Abilene Country Club for four years and spent one year at Fairway Oaks Country Club as a golf professional.

Chevrie comes to North Texas after spending the 2005 season as a part of the Tight Lies Tour working in the operations department. Chevrie has a bachelor’s degree in biology from Hardin-Simmons University.

She will take over the North Texas women’s golf team that returns eight letterwinners from last season.

Chevrie takes over UNT women's squad

Amber Chevrie, a former Hardin-Simmons University standout and golf pro, has been hired to coach the North Texas women’s golf team.

Chevrie will replace Cindi Padgett, who left UNT to pursue other interests.

UNT director of golf and head men’s coach Jim Bob Jackson announced the change on Wednesday.

“I’m excited about her coming to coach here,†Jackson said. “She is going to be a real asset to the program and continue the success that coach Padgett has built over the past few years. Being a golf professional for the last six years, she will be able to come in and teach a lot of different things to our players.â€

Chevrie lettered at HSU from 1995-99 and was an All-American Southwest Conference selection. She went on to work as a golf professional at Abilene Country Club and Fairway Oaks Country Club.

Chevrie spent the 2005 season working in the Tight Lies Tour’s operations department.

Chevrie will take over a team that returns eight letter winners after finishing eighth out of 10 teams in the 2005 Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
