(07-06-2005) - With numerous construction projects currently in midstream, the new era of North Texas Athletic facilities is becoming a reality.

Mean Green Athletics is currently constructing a state-of-the-art tennis complex, a new playing surface for Fouts Field, a new soccer stadium as well as practice, locker room and office facilities for softball, golf, volleyball and soccer.

The department is also renovating several buildings at the former Liberty Christian School to serve as a new academic center and compliance facility. The academic center will have multiple classrooms that will serve as computer labs, study halls and office space.

The Waranch Tennis Complex saw its first concrete being poured last week. The future home of Mean Green tennis, the complex will house 12 courts and will have space for a championship center court to be built in the future.

The first layers of crushed rock have been laid on Fouts Field and are currently being leveled for the turf installation. Additional rock as well as the drainage system will be put into place before the Sportexe turf system is installed.

Stay posted to www.MeanGreenSports.com for weekly updates on all the facilities upgrades.

So from the looks of these photos the tennis center will be located to the south of the practice fields. Is this correct? I thought the original plans were for it to be to the east of the dorms.

Well not good news that the center court is not being built.  I guess we should be elated at the progress but it is a letdown after assumming the whole project was going to be constructed at this time.

We seem to be pretty good at underestimating our costs. I'm a little concerned that the center court may never get built.

I just hope we don't do the same with the stadium. unsure.gif

But the best news is that they won't elimate the space where the center court will be built. They probably want to make it a bit more special than the other 12 courts.

When completed will all this put NORTH TEXAS as having one of the top 10 collegiate facilities for varsity tennis in the USA? Hasn't our tennis recruiting jumped a light year or 2 in quality since this has been announced? How about "Peterbilt Centre Court?" Some corporation may want that centre court recognition they would get with a nice donation to finish it out.
