Read it on their fan forum. This is a huge loss and a huge bust for them. Battle is supposedly transferring to a 1AA school. Man, the kid had talent.

I heard rumors last year he was considering a jump to NT. I wonder if that ever had any substance. rolleyes.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

But wasn't he their incumbent QB, who was doing really well? Maybe I'm remembering wrong.

he wasn't even the incumbent 4th string qb...........evidently, he has had a lot of off the field issues. I hope he can straighten everything out and acquire a college degree somewhere.

I called their Sports Information Dept. last fall and the guy there told me Battle was doing great and he was expected to compete for the starting spot this year. Of course, what's he gonna say ?

I always wondered if TCU didn't go after him to keep him off someone else's team.

Wasted a scholarship and 3 years of James Battle's life.

in retrospect it is a wasted scholly.......i can't tell if you're serious about offering him a scholarship just to prevent someone else from landing him. Please tell me you're not

I could see wasting a scholarship if he were immediately eligible...but he's not. We could have a qb with a hot hand by the beginning of next season and Battle might be further depressed if required to sit.

He needs to go to Division 1-AA where he can play immediately and see if he can stay focused on school and football and not his off-field problems.

Back in the days of unlimited scholarships it was a common practice to give a kid a 'ship just to keep him away from your competition. Darrell Royal was famous for this. It was a common site to see 150 players on the UT sidelines during home games. All of them under scholarship.

Since the NCAA has limited scholarships to 85 you don't see this anymore. Schools can't afford to "waste" a scholarship
