Favorite QB we don't talk about much?  How about Scott Carter?  I believe that was his first name.  I have searched on line and can't find any information on him, but I believe he played during the Corky Nelson years.  @FirefightnRick, do you remember who I am talking about?

It was Greg Carter - 1981 and 1983, I believe.

Greg Carter, Richland HS, Hurst, Tx.

He engineered a winning game vs. UL-Monroe & on a regional ABC-TV (ch. 8) telecast.

DMN sportswriter Cathy Harasta would write a special blurb showing the Mean Green's very impressive Nielsen ratings in that TV game's time slot.

My favorite and usually unmentioned QB is Scott Davis.

My all time favorite North Texas QB name was Rick Shaw.

Rick Shaw was my all time favorite name too, but don't look at his stats.  His first game was against BYU...the one where we got drubbed in the Cotton Bowl.  That may have been his best game.  He won four games in two years.  His last win was the only one that season, a two point win over Cincinnati.

It wasn't all his fault, though.  He didn't have much talent around him.  Rod Rust was a very good coach but a terrible recruiter.  Rod's first three years here, with mostly Odus Mitchell recruits, he lost only six games.  His next three years he was 7-26 and Rick was the quarterback the last two years with a record of 4-18.  He only completed about 30% of his passes.

Jack, was that BYU game when their Golden Richards (& future D. Cowboy) went ballistic on the Mean Green all game long, especially on kick-off returns?

GMG!

Didn't we have a thread of all time great North Texas player names?  Rick Shaw and Gene Pool sparked a memory, but I couldn't find it.  We do have some great ones.  I'm sure most schools have similar lists.   We also have some players that shared names with famous people too.  Here are some of them:

Woodrow Wilson, John Glenn, Don King, George Marshall, Jack London, Johnnie Holmes and James Mitchell all played football and lettered for North Texas.

Some of my favorites:

Edsel Ford, Fatty Cuest, Durwood Mumford, Crillon Payne, Konockus Sashington, Chance Adair and Buck Goode.
