Scraping balls, spitballs, greaseballs, sharpening your spikes as intimidation before a game... As long as there will by ways to get an advantage in a game people will look for it. Steriods are just the next thing in line like all the rest to get banned to even the playing field back out. There are no * next to Ty Cobbs name saying that he was a dirty player that spiked opponents and thats why he had tremendous steal numbers. It is something that will be remembered but I see it as no worse than the rest of the cheating or competitive advantage or whatever else you want to call it thats gone on since baseball was first started. It just happens that those in power in professional baseball let this become an epidemic before they did anything to curb it.

he might have bet against his own team a few times and puposly lost. each time he chated he deserved his punishment of being banned form baseball, but a steroid using player is chating every moment of his life. even after he quits using steroids he is cheating by havig the extra muscle that steroids gave him. baseballs newest punishment of 50 games, 100 games, lifetime suspension is a step in the right direction.
