Joel's bad back last year, kept him out of so many tournaments that he didn't automatically qualify for the PGA Tour this year.

He went to PGA Qualifying School (a 5 round tournament) and barely missed qualifying for the PGA Tour that way.

So, as of now, he and another UNT alum, Keoke Cotner, play on the second level of pro golf, The Nationwide Tour. The Nationwide Tour's next tourney is in two weeks.

And the guys who finish in the top 15 on the Nationwide Tour in money earnings for the year.....they automatically qualify for the PGA Tour the next year.

Actually, the top 20 will make it to the next level. That makes his chances even better. Joel played his way back on the tour in 1998 by playing well on this tour.

We wish him luck.
