Got a good idea for the b-ball games

If anyone works close to the b-ball dept. this is a great idea. My wife went to ACU and played b-ball there and they always played right before the men. During the men's game the place would have about 1,000 people there or so but the announcer would say everyone on your feet for the tip-off. The crowd would stand up and cheer until the other team scored. Sometimes this would go on for a few minutes into the game and the fans would be really loud. It always made for a good loud crowd b/c they were always into the game. At the beginning of the 2nd half they would do the same thing. Some people would just continue to stand during the entire game. A lot of times the crowd doesnt get into until the end and it drives me crazy. Just a thought anyway.

I like that idea a lot. Especially for games that started like the most recent home game. And..........it really gets the crowd "into the cheering mood".

Hey Jamie, Its Justin from the Pit Crew....

Someone pitched an idea on GMG.com and they wanted someone that knew some folks up there at the AD to talk about this idea...

A few other schools do this and it really gets the crowd into the game hardcore from the beginning....As the teams take the floor the announcer comes up and says something to the effect of "Mean Green Fans on your Feet" and basically the fans stand up and cheer until the OTHER team scores....

Had we done this the other night at the guys game, the fans would have been up for well over five minutes seeing as how we took off so fast....

Just In Idea to get people jacked up alittle more from the start!

Hey thanks for acting so quick. I went to games there at ACU for 3 years and I can remember the games being really fun b/c the crowd was so into it. I remember the crowds being really rowdy right off the bat especially when the other team took a while to score.

Good idea. We did this back when Tommy Newman was coach....the only problem was that our fans were on their feet for an eternity waiting for the team's first basket. I don't think that we will have that problem with this current team. As a side note, we also threw t-shirts to the fans after each dunk during the Newman period...we had a lot of shirts left at the end of the season.

I understand what your saying about the Newman era, but you are mistaken. The idea is to stand and cheer until the opposing team scores, not us.

I went to the Big 12 tournament at the AAC last year, and I think Texas or OSU does this. I wasn't really cheering for any team, so I did this as well, and their fans really seemed to get fired up, especially in the first half. The 2nd hald didn't really work because the other team scored immediately.

Well, leading by example will work to a point, so I would suggest making signs (good ones that are readable from across the Pit).

Speaking of signs, I need to make an "NT S.W.A.T. Team" sign for this weekend.

Speaking of signs, how about one that the Cheerleaders could hold up to help the crowd sing the "correct" words to the fight song ? Come to think of it, it might not even require a new sign, just re-arranging the signs we already have.

      Sincere question…Does anyone think Chandler Rogers is enrolled at CAL for no longer than a year and already qualifies for a degree ? A check, maybe. But I can’t imagine anyone graduating from anywhere, as mobile as he has been in college, in one year.

      On the telecast, they made if sound like that was part of his game and not so much his work in the paint. He wasn't terrible, but his footwork was not impressive to me. May be the rust from not being on the floor. The only two players that didn't see the floor were Cotton and Smith. I am assuming Cotton is hurt and Smith just isn't quite ready. It would be nice to see Lorient and Sissoko take him under their wing and help develop him. Regarding this team: Lorient (Jr.): Man, he has exceeded all expectations and just seems to be getting better and better. Hope we can keep him. Massie (Sr.) and Floyd (Sr.): Does either qualify for an extra year or is this it? Jossell (Sr): Love his game. I am assuming he is done after this year since this is his 5th season. Our most confident shooter at this time. Wright (Sr.): Considering this is his 5th year to play, I guess he is a one and done. Very different from what I expected. Pretty shot, but not athletic enough to create his own shot off the dribble. Stays within his abilities and quietly puts up numbers. Mason (Fr.): He needs minutes. This kid could be something really special. Cotton (R-Fr): Really want to see more of his game. Probably currently a level below Mason, but has the ability to be a double figure scorer. Stone (Sr): Happy to see him get the "and one" last night. That play really exemplifies his game. His hustle on the defensive end led to that play. Really wish he could have found his stroke the last few years, because I love his grit. He tries so hard and is Mean Green through and through.
