I was wondering if there were some other forums based at UNT... ie. non-sports based... I was hoping to make some inquiries about a department I have applied to for gradschool and the area, apartments etc.

thanks

Yeah, MadameD, go ahead and ask whatever you wish. Someone here has either worked in your department or lived in an area you are interested in.

ah, awsome.

ok... any dirt on the Geography department?

The undergrad program is great at UNT, the Applied Geography Masters is also very good in certain areas.

Great program for research in the Environmental sciences.

Unless things have changed many of your classes will also have some UG in them.

Dr. Oppong, Acevedo, Hudak, Lyons, and Williams are all very good professors who know what their doing.

Good luck.

I'm planning on focusing on GIS/Cartography in the MAGeo program, maybe with a little archeology on the side. it doesnt suprise me that there are undergrads in the classes, they "piggy-back" classes at Tech too wich is slightly annoying because if i wanted to do a program out here i would just take the same classes over with an extra paper or something like that in the course.

Thats cool. The Applied Geo course is a bear and so is the Research Course.

The Remote Sensing and Computer Cartography course are good also if your into it take the GIS Courses and then Visual Programming course it will help you greatly once in the Job Market again.

I hope to be starting a PhD. in the Fall at UT-D so we have somewhat similar backgrounds.

Good Luck

ok, so how about apartments?

i have no idea if i am going to be living with someone or not, i have a friend that has applied for speach pathology but no telling if she is goning to go to UNT or one of the other three places she applied.

but a one or two bedroom, decent area (i dont know about there but we have a slightly ghetto area a few streets north of campus here), relativly cheap. perferably allows pets...

how abut some other places close to campus? maybe some that don't scream student housing .... no i am not saying that the fountians does, but we have some out here that definatly are student housing (the places there are definatly parties, generally for about an hour or two then their busted...

how are these...

Woodhill

Ridgecrest

Westwind

Arbors

I found them online and they are somewhat in my price range

Woodhill--some of the units are kinda rundown cause they have been around awhile. there aren't as many parties here as in other apts, but you still might be kept up by loud crazy kids coming home after the bars..haha

Ridgecrest and Westwind--don't know much about these, anyone else?

Arbors--these used to be a ripoff for what you were actually getting. Not sure if they've brought the price down since it's been a few years since they've opened. I wouldn't suggest this complex if you are looking to escape the whole student scene because they are so close to RBAR--expect after-parties and general drunkeness to occur in the parking lots and units Thursday-Sunday. unsure.giflaugh.gif

thanks, i know we have places like Raider's Pass and Jefferson Commons etc (they have big parent comapnies that i am sure have places in Denton), that are Dorms with out the RA's but in an apartment format... but i am just not sure about Denton.

The Fountains is actually nowhere near a jefferson commons or raider's pass....I actually stayed at raider's pass a few weeks ago for a day or two...that is worse than Jefferson commons in Denton...didn't think that was possible! Fountains is a family complex if are looking for something quiet go there...just dont live in building 15....lol...we play loud music and have parties late into the night with illegal drugs....or so the warning note on the door last month said....JayDub has some explaining to do still...

FYI...No Drug were used in the apt....lol

Hey now...I am over the age of 21, therefore my alcohol consumption is legal. I know not of any illegal activity in your apartment...except the time you brought that goat home. That might have been illegal. I'm glad I got outta there when I did.

My apologies to MadameD for the hijacking of your thread.
