1)Three point shooting...ugly.

2)Defensive rebounding....ugly.

3)Why are we pitching up threes and shooting against double teams all night?

4)Apparently over the back can only be called if the game isn't on the line and calling wouldn't prevent a player from getting injured.

5)Nice turn out. For all of you who had excuses for not attending tonight (blah, blah, long distance, blah, blah, weeknight, blah, blah, leperacy, blah, blah, death) you better be out in force on Saturday. laugh.gif

Yeah I have to agree with Emmitt on the turn out. For a Thursday night, it was a great turnout. We both were skeptical about attendance about 20 minutes before tip off but the attendance was decent.

We coulda had the game but we didn't finish what we started. But the refs were pretty lousy too. What's new? wink.gif

pretty ugly game, I can guarantee that the guys will be working on the rebounding tomorrow during practice. I think alot has to do that UALR was clogging the lane and we were being forced to take awful shots, including several three pointers.

Attendence was announced at 2,289, not bad for a weekday game. Hopefully attendence will pick up on Saturday as we take on Arkansas State which also one of the top teams in the East division.

FYI... Channel 4's 10pm sportscast on college basketball only had a clip about UT's star player being academically disqualified... nothing about any local teams or scores. If I didn't know better I'd think we lived in Austin or some other Big12 metropolis instead of DFW, home to NO Big12 team! mad.gif

I wish NMSU would start to play like they used to. I remember we would always get a soldout game for a basketball game. The Pan Am used to be one of the hardest places to play at. I think we have less than 4k at tonights game, but it sounded like a lot more. Good Luck on the rest of your season, and don't worry once you start to win they will come. NMSU knows that. We used to win, and they came, and now we lose, and they don't come. So hoping for next year to be different with the new guys coming in. The transfers will be able to play. So hoping to see a very good team in NMSU. Very talented group, but just don't have any bigmen on the team right now. We have Nelson who is siting out who is 6-9, and two guys that we sign out of high school. One is 6-10, and the other is around 6-8, and 6-9.

Where did this come from? blink.gif

Anyways, it was a tough game and we had a chance to win but didn't take advantage. I have to give credit to UALR in that they made their open shots and were outstanding from the free throw line. We didn't make our open shots, and then forced shots that weren't there. I was upset with the number of 3 pointers that were jacked up late in the game when we didn't need them. We were in the bonus and had success driving the lane and getting to the line with Hopkins, so I don't understand why we didn't continue that.

I listened on the radio from work...the crowd sounded good. Great job on the early shot clock countdown!

Simpson sounded like he had a monster game similar to his one against NMSU. Hopkins got going, but it seemed like Watson never did. It hurt, but UALR is ranked in the 50's in the RPI according to George on the radio tonight. Bring on ASU.

I was really impressed by UALR tonight. They seemed like a much quicker and more physical team than NT is. That being said, I was really surprised how our guys fought to get back in the game after being down by 14. Great effort, just needed a few more shots to fall. I also agree with Emmitt, Hines not getting an over the back call when he went for the rebound in the last minute of the game was unbelievable. That guy was all over him.

Don't forget about when Mike Jones was called for a foul on the defensive end of the court with 4 seconds on the shot clock because the guy he was defending tripped over Jone's foot as he was playing defense. I don't know if Jones was supposed to step out of the way and let the guy score, or what.

Also at the end when a UALR player plowed over Simpson on the way to the basket and didn't get a charge called, and Simpson got hurt.

Even with the poor officiating we had a chance to win, but couldn't execute on offense late in the game.

I think when your best players are a combined 8-33 from the field and you are still in the game until the buzzer then that means we must be pretty good. UALR is in first place in the east. In past years we might have been blown out if that would have happened. If we just start shooting better we will be fine.

Hmm...I liked our turnout.

Rebounding: our guys are slow on it. They should anticipate the bounce-out and go after the ball.

Fast Breaks: the guys let the other teams do it way too often, and they don't seem to adjust well to it.

Coverage: many of the points scored on us came from guys being left wide open and uncovered.

The team isn't hopeless, and this shows our guys can keep up with the competition. All they have to do is cover the small details and above all, finish the job.

I will be at the ASU game Saturday ... AND I am bringing 3 people with me (wife and parents).

We'll hit the cheap seats though. smile.gif Not that there is a bad seat there.

Anyone who knows me...knows I will never claim to know the game of basketball. I can pick up on things here and there...and I love to watch...but most of the time I haven't a clue what's going on.

That said, even I picked up on how horribly that game was officiated by myself. Granted our team played pretty sloppily, but there were some absolutely horrible calls made towards the end of the game.
