Some of you from the late 80's may remember Talon alumn Darrel McCoy. he was "Eppy" the mascot during the final couple of football seasons, '89 and '90? He was in the Army reserves and activated the November before desert storm and sent to Iraq in December. He served with the special forces and participated during a special asisgnment before the war started, getting dropped in behind the lines to help distribute the surrender pamphlets. When he got back, "Necessary Roughness" was being filmed at the time. The day he got in the DRC ran a photo and a story on him in Denton. The photo was of him escorting an iraqi prisoner from a T72 Tank that is in the background of the photo, and I still have it in the scrap book. When I introduced him to the cast and crew of NR he was an instant celeb and everyone of course wanted to hear what he had done. And since he had mascoted before he was able to acquire a part in the movie playing the opponent mascots in the movie. Last time I had heard from him he had gotten bored with school and his Army reserve duty had run out. So he joined the Marine Corp. The last time I had heard from him, about the time I was getting on the fire department, he was in Haiti helping with the relief effort there and was suffering from Malaria or something like that himself. He's now found the time to finally settle down a bit and get back in touch with the home of the Mean Green. He is still in the Marine Corp, is married and has a 10 month old baby and lives in Hawaii. He sent me a link to his photography web address and it gives a little background on him. He's one wildest dudes if you have never met him. He's mentioned coming back to Texas soon so hopefully the Mean Green Nation will get a chance to again aquaint itself with one of it' s crazier son's. Check out his site. It's got some very interesting photo's he's done in the past.
