A look at the opponent:

SEMO was picked to finish 10th out of 11 teams in the Ohio Valley Conference by the Sporting New preview. The OVC is ranked two spots under the SBC in that magazine.

Las season SEMO finished 11-16 and 4-12 in OVC play. They have added six new players and three new coaches for this season, so the makeup of the team is much different. They are making a return to the triangle offense this season after a one year hiatus.

Dainmon Gonner is averaging 20 points in 5 games for SEMO, also in double figures scoring is Reggis Golson and Brett Hale. Gonner and Golson also average near 8 boards a game but only come in at 6-6 and 6-7.

The guards should be decent, led by senior Derek Winans, and JC transfer Ryan Belcher.

They have amassed a 3-5 record with wins over Rockhurst, South Dakota State, and Central Methodist College.

Last season's game:

SEMO 75-North Texas 68

SEMO came from 14 down to win by 7 over North Texas. Gonner had 15 and 8, with Hale and Winans chipping in 14 each.

The only two NT players to reach double digit scoring have graduated (ShoJo and Rogers). The only current players to make more than one field goal were Harris (3), Hopkins, Thomas, and Jones (2 each). Current players on the team combined for for 28 points.

What to expect this time:

As is the case with almost every team the Mean Green faced early last season, this is a completely different matchup. A healthy Hopkins makes a big difference (as we saw last season and into this year), and the addition of Calvin Watson added much needed offense. Shawnson did have a huge game, so that hurts, but SEMO lost their center that was the leading scorer as well.

I think we match up very well with this team size wise, and the Mean Green will win the game decisively. They won't be as bad as Southern, but probably not as good as UNCW.

I'm in the chat tonight. If you want to talk about the game, come on in. There is a pinned link at the top.

It's a rare missed home game for me (3rd in 4 seasons), but moving away has taken it's toll with today's weather.

Anyway, any students home for the holidays or out of towners are welcome to join. I will try not to ruin things with my running score this time, SUMG. biggrin.gif

Go Mean Green!

Quick moving game, already at the half, NT 24, SEMO 21, we are letting them hang around.
