Peaster 45, Howe 43

HOWE -- Peaster broke a tie with three seconds left to pull out a victory over Howe.

Howe (4-3) couldn't get off a shot and lost to the No. 9-ranked 2A team in the state.

The Bulldogs had a 27-22 halftime lead but made only two shots in the third quarter and trailed by six going into the fourth.

Howe tied the game at 43-43 with just over two minutes left before Peaster (4-0) stalled and held for the last shot. The initial attempt was missed but Peaster got the offensive rebound and scored on a putback.

Collin Mangrum scored a game-high 18 points for Howe, while Justin Howerton added 11. Tyler Hull had 13 points for Peaster.

Howe takes on the Allen junior varsity at the Ray Roberts Classic at Pilot Point Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

Seeing these loses and low scoring games is kind of getting me worried. I want to go watch him to see for myself if he can play or not.

These are my thoughts as well. I think this signing is a classic "project". Someone who has the build but just isn't there yet that Jones thinks he can groom into a solid contributor.

Well i think the low scoring game has more to do with teams playing a zone on him that packs everyone in the paint. Therefore it slows the game down and the scores are low. If you look at Peaster they are tradionally one of the highest scoring teams in the state. I think there is a reason a Big 12 school wanting him. Dont be discouraged, have trust in JJ.

I talked to Justin at the last game and asked how his seasonw as coming along...he said the first couplle of games were easy but the teams are scouting now...he was catching a double or triple team everytime in the paint...they are flooding him out with a pretty sticky zone...But he is still jacked about coming here...the kid is massive....

Two things that encourage me about the signing of Justin:

1) Billy Gillespie, the new A & M coach, wanted him badly.......and Gillespie is one heckuva judge of talent. (see UTEP which won 24 games or so last year in Gillespie's second year, and is expected to win the WAC again this year).

2) If Justin was just mopping up on 2A players, that would be one thing. But remember he did extremely well in Summer League games, against talented players from 5A and 4A schools.
