DENTON (11/3/04) - The Houston Jaguars used a 23-4 run to start off the second half and went on to a 83-62 win against North Texas in the Mean Green’s first exhibition game of the season on Wednesday night in the Super Pit.

"We were disappointed because we had played much better in practice," said head coach Tina Slinker. "However, it also showed we had some jitters tonight. I think we have some inexperience, and we also have some new players, but we can’t use that for very long this year."

Five players scored in double figures for the Jaguars, who shot 55 percent from the field. Sophomore Kelsie Edwards led the Mean Green with 18 points and six rebounds. Freshman Erica Howard pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

The Jaguars started the game with a 7-0 run and did not look back the rest of the way. The Mean Green stayed within single digits of the lead throughout the first half before the Jaguars got hot in the second half.

The Mean Green’s second exhibition game is on Wednesday, Nov. 10 against the Oklahoma Flyers at 7 p.m. in the Super Pit.

Ok I know she has been here forever but when will the AD and company put the onus on Slinker to win again she has had several straight down years now and this first game makes this season look rough even though it is a very young team. huh.gif
