LOI are contracts.

Maybe, they should be expanded like coaches' contract and outline damages if a player leaves without approval.  Let their new team compensate for what the former team has provided

Scholarships are one year agreements, but there has been a strong tradition of automatically renewing those contracts.  Only non-performance issues such as grades, legal problems or open defiance of school policies lead to losing scholarships.

Players get told to move on by coaches for lack of performance all the time.

A strarting G5 CB leaving his team after spring ball has an offer that was waiting for the portal to open. Period.

It would be pretty dumb if it weren't the case, that's for sure.
Again, we have no idea how much $ he's looking at, but if it's significant, and I were in his shoes when I was 19-20, I would have definitely done the same thing.    That's not his fault.

Hate the system all you want, but it's unfair to hate the players for taking advantage of it.

No, the players created this NIL mess of a $ystem because of greed.   They signed a scholarship for free education to play for a certain school.  That was their compensation for agreeing to play.  Then they got agents to become involved, then courts, now the mess.

No sir!  The players did not cause this NIL mess.  The players are the end product and take on all the risk.  The stupid coaches, universities and administrators are the real culprits.  If they hadn’t been so damn greedy we would be fine.  The idea that they players deserved none of the billions of dollars of TV contracts, video games and jerseys etc is just absurd.

I'm kinda confused, because it sounds like you're wanting to blame Nelson for "the mess".
So, to clarify:
You're saying Brian Nelson created this system for his gain?
Or, was this done way before he even had eligibility, and he would just be really stupid not to take advantage of the opportunity in front of him?

He's going to sign on for scholarship monies wherever he goes.  That part doesn't change.  It's the NIL money that's different.

Yes, "players" created this.  If he is party to not honoring his commitment to UNT, then yes, he is part of the problem.

Players absolutely caused this mess.  They agreed to a play football for a free education.   Nobody forced them to sign a scholarship and play football.   They can quit anytime.   But don't say you're going to hold the school hostage for more.

So have you ever signed on at a job, then moved on to another company that pays you more?
I bet you signed a commitment for your salary at the previous stop, but obviously did not "honor" it into perpetuity...
Are you a part of "the problem"?

Again, the old NCAA is long gone.  Sadly.
Holding these teenagers to loyalty standards that were forced in those past years simply won't happen.   There are opportunities for these young men to be paid serious money now.   I can't be mad at them.

Terrible analogy!    Your statement exemplifies exactly what is wrong with college football now.  You know, what used to be a TEAM sport.

Sure, I changed jobs.  No, I never broke a contract, but never had a company require a contract either, lol.

Good thing these "teenagers" didn't sign up for the military.  There is no "breaking contracts" in the military.
