UNT and the rest of the G5 have been losing players abruptly due to greater NIL $$$ demands for years.
It happens once to an SEC team and it becomes the biggest story in sports. Lol.

The SEC and Big10 are like the college version of the NFL to most G5 and HS player$.  You get a call up and supposedly you are set financially.

This case (aired publicly) showed a player had a set deal for his full college career at Tennessee for $8mil.  They went to the CFP his first season (last season).   Then his agent decides he should get paid more.  Tennessee says no. The agent floats his name to Oregon in January; they say no and tell Tennessee he is being shopped.  Before the last practice of spring, right before the spring game...and before the spring portal opens, again the player asks for more.  Tennessee says no again.  The player sits out practice and says he intends to enter the portal.  Tennessee says see ya!

I know people say players should be on contracts, but this kid was, and still wanted to hold out for more.  The same things are happening in the NFL with players right before their last year of contracts wanting to sit out and not play until they get re-negotiated.   Agents have the kid's ear...and it's all about $$.

Maybe it’s time for division iii. I have a lot of disdain for nfl, and the same for this version of ‘college’ sports.

As for this dude, they could have seen the writing on the wall. It’s right in the name. He is a leaver.

Same loser that tried to hold out of the college football playoff game... then proceeded to throw for 104 yards on 45%.

Was getting 2/per... wanted 4/per... Tennessee told him to phuck off.

Collegiate athletics is worse than ever. There is not much good about the setup. Yet, losers* that have nothing better to do hang onto every play in every game.

*Sometimes I'm that loser. But I no longer schedule my fall weekends or days, or basketball nights around any one game.

Mario Cristobal at Miami has put out a hard line statement that if his players hold out, they will be gone. This is what needs to happen.

Lol go ahead and drop down to D3. If you think going to FCS lost a generation of fans, see what D3 does to the few fans you have left.

Well, his NIL collective is already paying his roster double what any other school will pay.  So he has a lot more leverage to say that than, say, Eric Morris.

I'm really tired of this argument.   Cam Ward means nothing to Mean Green Football.   Stop bringing that dude up.

If you want to say he ID'd Rogers & Morris (both successful QB's here), that's fine.    Let's hope he's 3-for-3 with Poffenbarger.

He recruited and coached Ward at WSU, same as he did with Rogers and Morris here.
It’s all part of his resume with QBs…that was the whole point…. He knows QBs and wouldn’t offer one here from Miami if he didn’t believe he had some game.

All it takes is the RIGHT player to hold out at just the right time and his "hard line" stance will turn to quicksand.  Say they make the playoffs last year and Cam Ward threatens to hold out.  Cristobal's going to kick him off the team?!?  Give me a break.  No, some donor will step up and pay him and it would never be made public.

The thing is, why would any starter at Miami ever think about holding out?  It's not like they can go somewhere else and get more money.  They're already paying their starting QB more than the $4 million Nico was asking for.

That's the thing the coaches don't ever want to happen...players dictating who plays, and for how much, or I'm sitting out....and affecting the team and your job as coach!

Yeh you go ahead Houston. Keep chasing it. You’ll never get there in football, and your basketball days are numbered.

I dunno sir. The #1 recruiting class in the nation says otherwise.

If we keep this guy committed, we'll get there in football.

I wouldn’t get too attached to him. He might be happy to take the reps at your school for his freshman season, but as soon as he works his kinks out he will be off to one of the only two football conferences that matter anymore. And neither are the Big 12.

I know this is a popular narrative here, but I'm not so sure.  Morris hits on one QB (Ward) and he's some sort of QB savant?  Not sold on that...yet, but I'm a hard grader.  How much coaching did he really do with Rodgers and Morris?  Both QBs were already 95%+ fully developed in their games.  What specifically did coach Morris change about their skill sets or did he just turn them loose to do their thing?  They just needed a place to play and coach Morris provided that, but Rogers wasn't even named the starter until game three.  So much for identifying talent.  Don't we have a dedicated QB coach responsible for coaching QBs?  As head coach, Morris has a lot of other responsibilities.  And how hard is it to "discover" QBs in the portal?  I mean you just have to sort on position and scroll.  Also, I thought QB Morris sought us out looking for a place to play that matched his style so he could parlay that into an NIL offer (which I'm fine with and how we are going to survive BTW).

I would say he hit on Rodgers and Morris as well.
