Man, if there were a conference being put together that included those schools, I'd love for North Texas to be a part of it.

Pac-12 right???

That's just about what it will be, maybe better.

But then there will be NO Non-Power Conference teams getting At-Large Bids.😞

Wow is that happening? Incredible. Wonder if they need any additional schools, maybe to satisfy a minimum amount of football programs? If they're tapped out on west coast programs, maybe they'd like some presence in Texas? Think our leadership is working on it?

This is all sarcasm, by the way. I know they're joining together, minus New Mexico. I also know our leadership likely isn't doing anything to join the new PAC and tap in to the additional exposure, tournament bids, Quad 1 games, big name basketball programs visiting Denton, and NCAA tournament credits. Oh well. Maybe in 10 years we'll figure something out.

The Pac-12 is no longer a Power Conference, even if they actually get 12 total members...

Are we sure about that?  Also, aren't you behind the move too?

Yes, I am for the move.  However I doubt we have the AD and Prez in place we need to be proactive for it to happen.

Since the Pac will add Gonzaga, and are trying to get St. Marys, I feel it will pass the AAC in basketball.

As for their Power Conference status.....

No, the new Pac-12 with its expanded membership is not considered a Power Five conference and is unlikely to regain that status. The conference lost its Power Five autonomy in 2024 and is now in a rebuilding phase. While the Pac-12 has added new members, including Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, and San Diego State, these additions primarily address the conference's eligibility requirements and do not restore its former prestige or power within the college football landscape.

They'll 100% be a high major basketball league.

Yes, and I would like us to be in it!

Those fearing Texas State will pass us by if they get in the Pac and we don't, may be right.

I'm surprised inside information regarding UNT potentially angling for the Pac isn't currently out there. I imagine it'd be really tough to keep such secrets under wraps for long, which leads me to believe UNT might be satisfied remaining in the AAC.

That's because we're incompetent idiots. Duh.

I imagine several school's ADs are waiting, like everyone else, on the PAC's media deal numbers to compare apples to apples before making any phone calls.

Plus, the results of the MWC's poaching lawsuit, to see if the PAC has any $$ left.

My guess is that we will continue to see all at-large bids go to power conferences, especially after 14 out of 16 SEC teams got invitations this year.

Each mid-major or low-major conference seems to have a Memphis, High Point, or McNeese that are always picked to breeze through their conference schedule and tournament.  We have a chance in the AAC because Memphis is inconsistent, but money may tilt it much further in their favor in the future until they jump ship.

Why can't we at least find a way to get non-con teams to play us like Memphis did?  We have the respect of P5 teams in that they don't want to play us, but what about those that organize non-con tournaments?  It seems like something could be done if we just embraced the fact that we are increasingly a BASKETBALL SCHOOL.  A basketball school in a football state I guess.

I have to say it's been great communicating with everyone on this site. I was looking for a place to communicate with others about Pac 12 expansion as it relates to various Texas schools, and you all have been very informative and receptive. You guys are beginning to turn me into a UNT fan, even though I have no connection to the school besides attending a football game in Denton in 2018 against Florida Atlantic. Thanks for everything so far!

Speaking of OOC scheduling, does anyone have any insight into the scheduling philosophy of coach Robinson?  Doesn't the head coach provide a model (buy games, home-home series, tournament participation, mid-major, local rivals, high-major, power, etc.) to the AD for execution?  We need a better OOC schedule to realistically enter the at-large conversation (and do well in the OOC of course).

I know the coach has a lot more influence in scheduling than in football, but my assumption is that they're also working within a framework/template laid out by the AD based on resources.

looking through Robinson's 3 years in charge, nothing really jumps out as a marquee home game...but also given that CSU was struggling to average 1500 a game (in a building bigger than the Pit), there were probably bigger financial constraints at play.

most road OOC games he stayed relatively regionally...some Big 10, Big 12 and MVC opponents...a couple odd quick trips west for WCC foes.
