once again NCAA shows academics is no longer valued in their athletics. No way these players who are going to their 4th and 5th schools have made academic progress, especially when going Public to Private to another private.

SEC to Big East? To a parallel team in their respective conference too.

Excuse Me What GIF by Bounce

Typically, the Big East is a stronger basketball conference.  Either this year is a brand new trend for the SEC, or it's an anomaly.

Regardless, I'm pretty sure someone just offered him more money.

Yeah, thats the most sensible answer. Not sure what I am thinking. Conference doesn't mean anything anymore, all about $$$$.

Wow! That message board is claiming that Jason Edwards got $1.5M from Providence! Our finances aren’t even in the same universe as those guys.

I always heard him say his dream school was Providence and he would go there no matter what. They just had to offer.

Vanderbilt either didn’t have or didn’t want to pay him $1.5M. Providence gave him $2.0M per the Trilly discord. Trilly said he had multiple $1.5M offers and said he was going to Providence days before it was announced. Scott Drew & Jerome Tang discussed how high NIL deals from last year were now LOW NIL deals this year. I’d play in hell for a season for $2 million. More than enough money to ship in A/C.

UNT NIL + Vanderbilt NIL + Providence NIL = more than most make in a lifetime. Now imagine if he gets that JUCO year back. He literally could never work past the following year and live a better life than the above average person. A decent roll of two ply would have more use to him than any degree I hold.

Well and remember Providence and the Big East type and Gonzaga types do not have the football draino like we have.

If UNT would get smart and move football to non-scholarship we could be a powerhouse in hoops and actually compete nationally.   And I do love football but it just is a losing hand for places like UNT.  It just is and the sooner we come to that realization the better.

When players arrive via the portal, no one should be surprised when they leave via the portal.  Many (most?, not sure) have agents managing these moves on their behalf.  They are not student athletes anymore.  We should simply view them as paid mercenaries for their respective sports.

A move like that kills all sports unless you've gotten all of our donors lined up to agree that they will, in fact, still give the same amount and are 'Ok' with using that money on basketball only.  I suspect that the reality is that MANY of our big hitters are here for football first and basketball second.  Kill that off and you likely lose them entirely.
