My sources tell me that Bill Self was interested but the deal fell through, so Robinson was #2 on the list.

There was always chance Hodge’s family didn’t want to move across country to WV. But in the end not many people can turn down a 2.5 million pay bump.

Yeah, the pay bump.  I get it, that one's not really inclined to say "just in case the multi-milllion dollar pay raise isn't enough to lure him away."

Drake had a pretty good season with a bunch of D2 players.   I’m not saying we’ll make the NCAA Tournament in year one, but it’s not an impossible goal.

I don’t know why I feel good about this hire. Perhaps it’s:

1. Jared excels in the boardroom. He will make decisions that have us scratching our head but business knows good business. He obviously has been scoping out Robinson.

2. I like how Robinson has charged up the fanbase. Our announcement, our pride, our top tier mid major program, walking around with the mojo we have earned. 

3. I started wondering if other programs were snooping on Robinson and I bet there were. We got him he chose us. 

I love our legacy with GM and Hodge. The identity has been carved time to build on it. Let’s all leave Denton and this fun season with some awesome vibes.

Surely we approached Coach Olen at UCSD, but as we've found out, he was already in serious talks with UNM.   
Coach Robinson is a very nice consolation prize.   
Not sure who else may have been interviewed.   Some super flight-tracking sleuths here believe we were in on Coach Miller @ OKSt.   I like Coach Robinson's resume better.

There is always more than 1 wheel in motion (or at least, there should be).   
And even if a search firm reached out to coach Olen or anyone else on our behalf, that still counts as "approaching" them.

A good coach is a good coach. No such thing as "just" being a good coach in a bad conference. If that were the case, highmajor programs wouldn't constantly be plucking head coaches from lower tier conferences...
