I don't really care about Texas connections.  These days with the way NIL is, talent evaluation and the ability to scour the JUCO and "lesser" conferences is more important.  And the MOST important thing nowadays is the capacity to mix and match rosters on the fly every season.  I really feel like pulling JUCO coaches up into 4 year institutions will be the way of the future.  Those guys have to build new rosters together from scratch every season...which is the way D1 is going too.

I agree 100 percent.

#4 if the fates are good to us

I'm not going to rest our success at the feet of a 2nd year player coming out of the Horizon. If that's where we're at.... we're already in trouble.

I'm not sure what to think of it. He stacked three 20 win seasons at Cleveland State. But he never won anything while finishing 4th, 8th, and 3rd in Horizon league play.

Ask yourself, is this the best UNT Basketball can do?

And he's woke. Just... great. This program about to get buried.

He has a higher winning percentage than his predecessor who is now the Head Coach at Missouri after coaching 3 seasons at Cleveland State. However, his predecessor did win the Horizon Championship.

Also, he was tied for 2nd, 7th, and tied for 2nd in Horizon play.

I am optimistic.  Head coaching experience is a plus plus a winning record.

i hope he talks to all of the assistants especially Forte and Andre Shaw and considers them.

This assumes Hodge hasn’t already told them they’re coming with him

Chicago's urban parks aren't going to be helping us win basketball games.

Latrell Jossell and Grant Newell are both from Chicago.
College basketball recruiting has gone national. It is not like the old days, or even football.
It would not even be too surprising if our roster didn’t have any guys from Texas on it.
As long as this dude has connections at places that produce players and can continue to build relationships, we will be in a good spot.

Reserving judgment until he actually starts coaching games for us. I don't think McCasland was any more successful at Arkansas State before coming here and Hodge had no D1 HC experience. Maybe Robinson's system couldn't fully be run due to the recruiting challenges the Horizon presents?

This is what's head scratching to me. This is the best we could do after the 8 years?  What was it that lead us to this guy?  I didn't see him being mentioned for any other positions.  Feels like a step backwards.  In fact, I would have preferred to go with someone who has experience at the JC level since they are constantly rebuilding year after year.  But what I know nothing about hiring coaches, so it could end up being a great hire.  It won't deter me from going to the games.
