I know JM said there wouldn't be any communication until the search is over, but when do you guys think we get a new coach?

The longer it goes hurts recruiting. That is, unless the new coach just brings his players.

Terry and Golding are just lazy suggestions. I think Scott Cross is a lazy suggestion as well. There's better established mid-major coaches out there and plenty of exciting young assistant coaches out there.

If I am AD I would announce replacement on Tuesday. This will ensure the most coverage since we are playing on national tv that night.

This is disrespectful to our current guys.  Don't want to steal any of their thunder on the day of the game.

I'm firmly in the James Miller camp. If you read his bio, places he's been have had stingy defenses. So that's who I'm hoping for.

Wouldn't mind an interview, but would still love to see someone who's already shown he can lead a program this time around.   If he blows Mosley away, and can recruit basically a whole new roster, I wouldn't be mad.

I remember being skeptical of Hodge's abilities to recruit new rosters every year and people here pointed out he had success doing it at the JUCO level where you have to recruit a new roster every year. Miller did just that at New Mexico Junior College where he went 77-23 in 3 seasons and had 21 guys go to from JUCO to D1. It was around 09-12 so it's been a while but Hodge's HC experience wasn't really recent if I remember correctly.

I'm not saying I'm 100% on Miller but I certainly wouldn't be upset if he were the guy.

Hoping Jared is meeting with both Russ Turner and Drew Valentine next week in Indianapolis. Would prefer that we poach a successful, proven sitting HC vs someone like Miller.

I'm not completely sold on Valentine based on the fact he inherited a Sweet 16 team and went 10-21 two years later. He's bounced back nicely but like Miller, there's some reason for concern. I'd be happy either way though.

I am not saying Miller is good or bad. But I am saying that a 77% win rate in Juco is not all that great. It's not bad but there are a lot of guys who had better records for longer who never got a chance at d1.

Hank Plona for example, 225-35 over 8 years or .865. And he probably would not be a D1 head coach today without a bit of luck.

There was a guy at South Plains who had good long term record over 23 years and never got a chance to be a d1 head coach.

Eric Murphy posted a 143-34 overall record (.829 winning percentage) as head coach for Florida Southwestern and just this year went to be a d1 assistant at WKU.

Steve Demeo is another with a great long term record. Never got a chance to be a d1 head coach.

There is a guy who went 46-9 in his first 2 years as a juco head coach and he went on to be a d1 assistant. Zack Settembre. He drew my attention because he is a young guy who dies his hair grey.

Guys, I didnt mean for this to be another thread on who will be the coach, we have one of those. Can I get more opinions on when you think JM makes the move?

I can’t imagine we hear anything until after the season.

No need to wait on the end of the season for the announcement. Ross already announced he is gone and I bet we have 100% roster turnover (unless it is an internal candidate) so we need to get the new staff working the portal. Do it now.
And about the portal: the first players to move will be the guys out of our price range. Most of our shopping will be in the bargain aisle. Finding guys who didn’t get the deal they wanted or need to prove themselves to get the next paycheck. Those guys will still be in the portal after the NIT is over.

The record has less to do with how good of a JUCO coach he was and more to do with experience leading a program at some level of college.
